I was talking to a friend who is a fellow blue collar worker, and we both agreed that Seattle is definitely not middle class friendly. We both know a lot of blue collar baby boomer types who grew up in Seattle, and virtually all have fled the city for the burbs. Seattle has become friendly only for the very rich and very poor, in this age of income inequality.

It turns out that this is a common pattern. Forbes has an interesting piece on cities creating the most middle class jobs.
Indianapolis-Carmel, IN - In Photos: The Cities Creating The Most Middle-Class Jobs - Forbes

The top four are ALL in Texas (Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas). The other six are OKC, New Orleans (Bobby Jindal stomping grounds) Nashville, Salt Lake City(Romney stomping grounds) , Denver, and Indianapolis.

All, with the exception of Denver, are in red-dominated states. Which party is truly middle class friendly? Nine out of ten is hard to write off as happenstance.

San Antonio may still be affordable. Not sure about Dallas. Austin and Houston prices have gone through the roof and utterly ridiculous in some areas. Combined with high insurance and high property tax rates, not so affordable anymore unless you look in a sketchy area of town.

Scratch that too...gentrification is going on and even driving the poor out now.

What does State have to do with local politics and policies ?

Does Jindal also get credit for the crime in New Orleans. The systematic removal of damaged properties being bulldozed to create high priced subdivisions ?

San Antonio mayor has been called the future of the Democratic Party. Dallas went for Barack Obama by 57%, 59% in Nashville.

Salt Lake City, Austin and OKC have massive center planning.

With the exception of OKC, you picked out blue dots in red states.

To Further my point.

There has not been a Republican mayor in these cities since

New Orleans 1872(not a typo)
Salt Lake City 1974
Dallas 2011( only 1 Republican mayor in 20 years)
Austin Last 4 mayors have been democratic, no party given for previous mayors before that
Houston 1982
San Antonio 2001
Nashville At Least 1963, no party given before that.

Even though Republicans have controlled Michigan for for the majority of the last 60 years, you blame the Democratic leaders of Detroit for its demise. Why not give them credit for these cities ?

There are quite a few (dozens) decent cities that I've found through my research.

Many outlying areas of Boise ID, Prescott AZ, St George UT, Sugarland TX, Knoxville TN, Little Rock AR, and there are areas of the Carolinas that I considered as well.

I've settled on Prescott myself, where the per capita income is 34% above the AZ state average. Even though the unemployment rate is at 9%, the predicted job growth is 24% over the next 10 years.

It would be better to compare the county unemployment rates to the state to get a good idea of how the job market is for any particular city.

I can see Indianapolis being on the list.

We were just there a few months back.....that is where they make the best well drilling rigs.

Laibe Corporation - Versa-Drill Model Line Up - Water Well Drilling Rigs Indianapolis, Indiana

Things looked lot better there now than when we were there in 2005.

Help wanted signs were in most places we went to eat.

So there were a lot of food service jobs eh?

Forgive the sarcasm, but

I have a client in Los Angeles that is looking for a CDL with over the road experience to be trained as a shredding technician. Could turn into a 100k yr job running your own route, if anyone is interested.

Exactly.

Also, any jobs in areas linked to the oil business can't take credit for having those jobs because of political leanings - the oil just happens to be where it is, regardless of red state or blue state.
