I don't think Obama wants to grant wholesale amnesty.

And even if he did, why was it OK for Reagan to do it, but not Obama?

Reagan just wimped out; instead of kicking the can down the road, he made the can disappear!

(not that it helped anything, though)

the can came back but he was out of office by then, his hands are clean...lol

The recent history re-visioning is incredible!

Obama could have solved immigration, infrastructure, social, and economic issues in his first two years when he controlled Congress; abandoning personal responsibility. Instead, we got ACA.

Reagan "knew that it was not right for people to be abused," Simpson says. "Anybody who's here illegally is going to be abused in some way, either financially [or] physically. They have no rights."-Simpson

Peter Robinson, a former Reagan speechwriter, agrees. "It was in Ronald Reagan's bones — it was part of his understanding of America — that the country was fundamentally open to those who wanted to join us here."
Reagan said as much himself in a televised debate with Democratic presidential nominee Walter Mondale in 1984.
"I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally," he said.

Republicans (not the party), Libertarians, and many Democrats (not the party) want reform, however we want to avoid the same pitfalls that befell Reagan's amnesty.

We have to fix the border before we create another path to legalization
, otherwise we'll be destined to repeat history.

A lot of people have wanted to point fingers about the problem. Now you have a good target. The tea baggers and the people who elected them now bear all of the responsibility for this mess and nothing will happen to help for another 5 weeks.
Think of it as a blessing in disguise.
Obama can declare them all refugees and grant them asylum.

That let's them all stay here, get benefits and legally work.

Yes, let's shoot them when they step onto our soil, Jesus would be proud of the right, ask him when you meet him.

His domestic policies are failures too. Obama is a speech maker and hate monger.

Sounds like more dodging the issue. Were that Obama's goal, then he would have done it by now. Time for the tea baggers to take some blame for screwing up our country yet again.

What in the heck are you talking about ? Really ? Reagan & the congress passed an amnesty bill according to the law....no executive order was issued. Reagan was promised that this would be the last amnesty & the borders would be closed. We all know that amnesty happened & the borders were left open. Reagan acted in good faith according to the law.

Democrats had a plan to speed up deportations and strengthen the border. It came with a catch though and that was immigration reform. Republicans have double down on DACA want want deportations of dreamers. The two month spending bill which would have provided some relief was better than nothing plus it would have forced Harry Reid's hand. That might be what we will see this afternoon. Then Republicans can go home looking like they were willing to work and the Dems werent.
