I have two very good friends each of whom are high up on the staffs of different Congress Members, one of whom will likely be making a run for the Republican presidential nomination. Let me tell you. There is almost no reason for a Congress Member to hate D.C. If anything, they hate their constituents and anyone that holds them accountable.
They all love it.... even guys like Coburn who wanted to clean it up. Some may want the gov to run more smoothly and efficiently, but they all love being the decision makers. Every last one of them volunteered for the job and fought tooth and nail against all the other volunteers - not a one of them hates it.
Which is why they should be given only a few duties and very little money.
He's still in D.C....making millions as a policy wonk.
Armey couldn't find Texas on a map if that was the only state on the page.
Yeah...he lived frugally as a congressman because he had to. Not anymore.
It reminds me of Moonbeam Brown, who famously lived in a cheap apartment (even though the Governors Mansion was still costing millions to maintain) and drove a Vega or some cheap beer can car. Of course he was out on the town wining and dining Linda Ronstadt and an entourage of wannabes. It was all for show.

Exactly right, and a frightening truth.
As long as becoming a lobbyist or the promise of a high position on the board of a company they shlep for is the goal, we will never be represented properly. The small guys who account for ALL the votes will never get what they actually voted for.
DC is nothing but a shining city on a hill designed for politicians, by politicians.

Term limits would be a good start!
Yeah...Brown was being ridiculous. Okay...he didn't like the governor's mansion. I get that. I hate huge houses myself.
But the Vega and fake oath of poverty was a bit much.
A young Linda Ronstadt though...gotta give him props on that one.

Just wanna get a show of hands since I'm constantly hearing this or that politician rail against Washington...As if they're an outsider themselves.
Of course, all of us are represented by pols that LOVE Washington, but I don't think many of you believe it.
Funny how once they leave office, most of them seemingly find a way to stay in D.C. regardless.
The post elective office lobby money is too big a lure and too lucrative to leave on the table.
DC is a wonderful and vibrant city to live in these days...very expensive though. They are slowly turning the bad areas around. So they still have work to do.
