That's the whole incubation period thing - you can become actively symptomatic anywhere within that 21 days. They already caught the virus at that point, just not enough has replicated to be symptomatic yet. Good thing is that the virus only sheds (e.g. infects) when a person is symptomatic though, at least according to the CDC.
I can't find a source anywhere for Dr Brantly initially testing negative for Ebola.

Merged thread. Another poster said it earlier - I haven't seen it myself but then again, I didn't look either. I was just referencing that poster. I guess I should do my proper due diligence.

Found a source.

Dr. Kent Brantly To Speak At Annual Conference
Quote:
When Dr. Brantly first started feeling under the weather and displayed the early symptoms with a fever of 100 degrees, he immediately isolated himself. Though he tested negative for Ebola twice, he waited to ensure the safety of those around him. The third test came back positive.

No, I mean I went to Google and Bing trying to find it anywhere on the web. I totally believe that another poster might have said that, but I tried to find it in any of the original news feeds when Brantly was flown back to Emory, and I can't find anything that says that.

Just saw where you found it. Good job!!!!

Here's his story..by him.

Ebola survivor Dr. Kent Brantly: 'I'm not worried about' the virus' stigma - Health - TODAY.com
His fever kept rising. The first Ebola test came back negative.

“I really was more irritated that I was going to have to sit in my house for three days,†Brantly said, speaking in quiet, even tones. “I knew the first test, unless it is positive, is not the definitive test.†If it came back negative he’d have to wait for a few days and take a second test.

The next morning, he was worse. “I don’t remember what my temperature was. But I felt worse. I was tired,†he said. Malaria tests also kept coming back negative.

“My friends and family were praying that I had dengue fever,†Brantly said.

It was Saturday night before the second test came back with the bad news. Brantly had Ebola.

Gee, can you tell I spend a LOT of time on computers?? Both my job and my hobby. Yeah, I'm a total geek!

Yeah, I didn't know he tested negative - twice - while symptomatic. That's concerning.

So now State Police are outside of the Nurse's boyfriend's house in Maine due to her declaring she would not comply as she agreed.

So Obama has said that those that WILL treat those affected should not go through this but our troops that he say WILL NOT be treating any patients will be quarantined.

What a game he is playing with all of this.

This should not be political but talk about contradiction.

What search phrase did you use? I'm always trying to get geekier! (As if that's possible!)
