Question: does anyone actually live on food stamps?
I understand that many, many people need supplemental assistance, but to suggest that anyone is "living" on that assistance seems a bit far-fetched.

BTW, isn't it time to retire the whole "food stamps" misnomer? No one receives food stamps anymore.
Hard to take the author seriously when the title is little more than a dog whistle.

IMHO - If anyone is living entirely on food stamps to milk the system is living on skim and not even 1%. What really bothers me is the other 1% living on the dole provided by inherited or investment wealth. Neither group is working but what they get out of the economy is embarrassing unequal. The real suffering in this economy are the people working 40 hours a week for 52 weeks a year without any health care or vacations for survival money. This working underclass, many of them undocumented immigrants, are the nearly enslaved workers that are the basis of most of our agriculture and service economy. Basing investor profits on this systemic slavery is an abomination. We, as a society, economy and country, can do better and we have a duty to do so.

Many of us WANT to work but are either too old or too banged up, especially those of us much above 55 years old. Most employers want younger people.
Yep, both are in Arizona too. Both recieve less than $1000 a month. Neither benefitted from O-care either How do you live on that???

1. Being on the dole doesn't take brains, effort or accomplishment.
2. Being able to live off your investment takes brains and accomplishment.

I don't know anyone who aspires to live on the dole. Most Americans aspire to become someone who can live off their investments. Big difference.

Food stamps take up a whopping half of one percent of the entire federal budget. Maybe you guys can find some larger issues to get into a tizzy about.

How about ending all corporate welfare along with ending food stamps? Would you be in favor of that?

Oh SNAP, it is food stamps. Food stamps is the common term for it. The more technical term is SNAP.

If you're going to make a snarky come back, make sure you go to school first.

We have well over 47 million people living in poverty, that is the issue, not the $6.3 billion we spend on food stamps.

I guess we need a Republican in the White House again before the poor to be a concern de jour for the libs around here.

Yea I agree. How about making the people on the dole work like I have to. How about taking our money and paying for a home for children, take the baby's away from the breeders and make them work too.
