Churches are excluded because they are the single largest organization in America, and indeed the entire world (charity) that provides food, clothing, shelter and medicine to poor people and those in need. Without churches, our societies would have been messed up with much higher poverty rate, higher crime rate and violence, and other big mess. Sure, it still happends, but at least by far less. Unlike other religious groups, Christians help everybody, and not only Christians.
Let's not forget the hospitals, soup kitchens, red cross, salvation army, and education the churches and Christian organizations have founded.

Probably not but what we see here is what we see in so many threads. People wanting to punish the whole for the bad things the few do.
Sadly at times it seems that they(Christians) want to cross that line and create a state religion.
No; it nothing like that in that religious symbols do not a state religion make. Just look at what is happening in radical Muslim states as to real religious control of state. But then few really believe its based on Muslim religion any more than the Nazi's where religious. Its more like political correctness than a religion really and that is the wants and desires of few in total control by use of force.
Waste? They give protection, love, faith and hope to most people!
