They have a lot to gain, we are gaining nothing when we had the upper hand in negotiations.
It would be like having the winning ticket for 50 million and only getting 5 million when you turned it in.
What upper hand?
Lol...I'm telling you..there is no upper hand. You can't push around people that have hit rock bottom and proved that they can survive it.
Especially when you're not dealing in good faith.
Leasing a naval base in their country for the cost of a Sleep Number bed annually is ripping them off. You can't do things like that and then be sanctimonious about "rights."
I can't answer that. But now is no time to be lifting an existing one. It undermines US credibility, and is a slap in the face to Cubans in this country with families back home.
Because now their families back home will be able to buy their own soap and not wait for their relatives in the US to bring it to them on a chartered flight?
The only Cubans this upsets are the much older right-wing Cubans who still want revenge on Fidel (who may actually be dead--nobody has seen him for months.) Raul Castro is not a revolutionary and really doesn't have the stomach for the dictator thing. I think he wants out also.
This is definitely THE time--it is long overdue. These people have a beautiful Caribbean island--let them flourish and join the rest of the world.
How long do you think it will take before American companies, who have moved off shore already, start eyeing up Cuba as the next low-wage slave labour market lusting for jobs and blue jeans.
Good bye Taiwan, Bangladesh and China....... hellooo Cuba.
Imagine a Cuban's chagrin when he drives to work in a 1953 Buick and when he gets there, he's busily employed building a 2016 Buick he can't begin to repair himself if he manages to actually buy one.
Indeed. Not very long at all.
American corporations have already been pressuring our government to open up the Cuban markets to American goods. The cacophony is gonna get much louder after this.

Quote:
Republicans begin their regular strategy of fearmongering (from a CNN article):
But some Republicans are warning the move will only strengthen the Castro regime in Cuba, which has long been accused of human rights abuses and is listed by the State Department as a state sponsor of terrorism.
Impeachment requires a high crime or misdemeanor on the part of the president. How about you citing the law you believe that President Obama broke by his actions toward Cuba?
This is already being hailed as a major victory by Latin America's anti-American leftist regimes. Venezuelan dictator Nicholas Maduro has announced the "victory of Fidel over the Gringo imperialists".
Obama made a big mistake dealing with Cuba! Money from the U.S. will
not really help the people. The money will go to the Cuban government to continue
their Communist ways.
I can't answer that. But now is no time to be lifting an existing one. It undermines US credibility, and is a slap in the face to Cubans in this country with families back home.
In one year alone 750,000 Americans went overseas to seek affordable or superior medical treatment in countries like Costa Rica, Thailand, India, and yes, even Cuba. I don't believe any Cubans thought of that as a slap in the face.
Those Cubans in America are probably going to be relieved at perhaps not having to send money back to family but actually applauding the ability for those families to soon earn a better income from all the American companies that will move there and hire them.
Did you miss the little gem where Obama has invited Cuba to the next meeting of the Americas? American corporations are salivating already.
Who do you think really pushed for this.....probably the same money'd guys who bought and paid for Obama's presidency.
This is one of those once out of the tube, the toothpaste is not going back in situations, and consequently will be at best a weak political issue in 2016. What would the opposition argue? A return to the pointless stalemate of the last 55 years? By 2016 there will be all sorts of high end business links established or being created, and the people involved certainly will not wish to see them disturbed.
The anti Castro die hards in South Florida will make their stink, but they are getting long in the tooth and fewer in number as the years go by. Their lamentations about the normalization of relationships will be the last belch of the Pepsi Generation, they will be seen as fringe anachronisms by 2016.

I wholeheartedly support Rubio's claim. Obama won't negotiate because the ideologue in him tells him not to. Barry will never distance from his delusional view of America, which most of us don't share.
