I'm not against a progressive tax code.... Which we already have, but when and where do we draw the line? The top bracket already shells out 39.8% of their income to Uncle Sam. When you factor in state and local taxes, you are pushing what 50%? Isn't that enough?

How many times have we said or heard the phrase, “If I only had more money…”? Whether wanting to purchase a new car, house or trying to pay down bills such as credit card debt and student loans we can fall into the trap of thinking that more money will be the answer to our problems. Most often, this is not the case.
Maybe middle class people need to up their game if they think they need more money. They can also learn to tighten their belts a little. What makes them think they need a new car?

High earners are already getting slaughtered on taxes and if they are not protected they will simply take their business (and their smarts) elsewhere.

Putting it in wage worker perspective...

I wonder how many people would be willing to work more if the boss says we'll pay you half your hourly rate. But for some reason the lemmings think it's ok to ask this from high income earners.

I wasn't speaking of only Congress; even so, they just may have that "veto proof" majority. The vast majority of Americans support it, including Richard Trumka. Now if that doesn't tell you something, it should.

A retired railroad conductor showed me about Obama's plans which will hurt his investments, savings,as it also will hurt his family when the death taxes hits their inheritance. It is BS someone works hard all their lives to have the government illegally steal from them.Obama should propose the end of a income tax all together and institute a consumption tax the bigger the item the bigger the % of tax a $25,000 car a 10% consumption tax $2,500 to the treasury ...$100,000 home a15% consumption tax $15,000 to the treasury ...all taxes, insurance bundled up in a bank loan with one monthly payment everything done how easy everybody is happy. This way we keep our hard earned money and be able to stimulate the economy by consuming but that would hurt the environment with all that nasty green house gases wouldn't it.We all know Obama hates capitalism thats why he is dead set on destroying it. Why would you impose more taxes, regulations, work rules on a struggling recovery? Now he promises new free s#!t for everyone!

Anything that helps young working families deal with the economic vise the rich have locked them into has my support.

Is it too much to ask that a little help with childcare be forthcoming for moms and dads who both have to work (for crappy wages) so that they can put food on the table and provide for their kids?

The wealthy people in this country need to start doing something besides swimming around in their money bin. If something doesn't happen to address our country's increasing level of economic inequality, the current level of disaffection in our society will seem like a picnic by comparison to what the future has in store for us.

When you spout Hyperbole like the first line of your post, its hard to believe that as you are intentionally demonizing an argument.

As for the ret of your post. If you honestly believe in a progressive tax system, then shouldnt we have a discussion on where to draw the line ????????

Also, no one actually pays the marginal tax rate, after multiple loop holes, deductions , and the fact that you do not pay 39.8% on all your income, just your income over the thrush hold. They only end up paying around 25%(not including state).

The way Right wingers talk about taxed income in this country is a lie. The sad thing is, you could probably look at your own taxes and see that, but most people wouldnt even bother.

I like what Joe Scarborough said on his show: (paraphrased) "Today's Republican Party is so far right that the difference between capitalism and communism is two percentage points on the top bracket."

Obama is and has been a one trick pony since he was elected. Raise taxes on the wealthy and raise taxes on business. He still doesn't understand that the wealthy are the ones that own the businesses and they will meerly pass the cost along to consumers.. He gets the idiot worshipers all excited though...

Communism
a socioeconomic system structured upon the common ownership of the means of production and characterized by the absence of social classes, money,[3][4] and the state; as well as a social, political and economic ideology and movement that aims to establish this social order.

The establishment of a communist society is supported by a variety of political traditions, which broadly include Marxism, anarchism and the political ideologies grouped around both.

Sounds more like the political left to me.
