Most Muslim majority countries do not condone stoning. Saudi Arabia, long time US ally, permits stoning. Go figure, eh.
The only scripture that orders stonings is the Torah. In Islam, stoning only appears in the “hadiths,” which have always been contested by Muslims for their authenticity. It's most likely that stonings were just a tradition Muslims incorporated over time.
There have only been two known stonings in the entire six centuries of the Ottoman Empire, dating back to 1299. Amputations of the hands for theft were also made obsolete in the 15th century and replaced by beatings or monetary fines based on the culprit's economic status. There were various methods of capital punishment, usually copied from the West, but the typical sentence was by hanging, just as in the US. Contrary to what many Islamic fundamentalists and critics of Islam will say, there has always been a figurative method of interpretation (as opposed to the literal interpretation) that focuses on the intent of the scripture based on the context.

We have killed 100,000 or so with a single "push of a button" and could kill MILLION with that today.
Just because we impersonalize it and sanitize it doesn't make it any less violent.

The Americas, substantially Christian countries, lead the world on murder rates.
By country, South Africa, a substantially Christian country, is the world's most murderous place.
The difference is that these murders are not done in the name of God and no one is using social media to recruit and boast. An yet, people who profess to be Christian manage to kill a heck of a lot of people.
There's a terrorist group in Africa, The Lord's Resistance Army, a self defined Protestant sect, led by a lunatic. They make ISIS look like a bunch of pansies.
