I was listening to a podcast the other day, forget who it was, but they were talking about the $15 MW with one of the guests from CA. He said when SF enacted this he couldn't keep his business open, he had a book store. He said although he couldn't keep his business open he supported the MW hike and gladly closed his doors leaving his employees with no job. Think about that. This guy supports the hike, can't afford it so he closes his doors and let's his people go unemployed but says he is looking out for the MW workers. You can't make this stuff up. He is looking out so hard for them that he let his own employees go unemployed and his business shuttered. What a backward thinking jackass, but it is CA we are talking about here.
Edit: This is the store. The article doesn't mention the owner's views but he made them known on the podcast. Also, the article tries it's best to say that the employees there actually didn't need the money and they just worked there because they liked it. Yeah right....The man said on the podcast that almost all of his employees were kids and younger adults who needed the job.
Some of the comments made by supporters of the hike are astounding.
Quote:
“You know, I voted for the measure as well, the minimum wage measure,” customer Edward Vallecillo lamented. “It’s not something that I thought would affect certain specific small businesses. I feel sad.”
Quote:
“Borderlands Books is a phenomenal bookstore, I was just in it yesterday,” said San Francisco Supervisor Scott Wiener, a huge advocate for raising the minimum wage. “I hope they don’t close. It’s an amazing resource.”
Perfect example of Liberals not understanding the consequences but support something just to feel good about themselves.

Some businesses use compassion and empathy as part of their business model (some ice cream companies do this) and it works in some cases. But the final objective is to make money for it's stakeholders.
Some do it for the double or triple bottom line where it includes social responsibility. Others do it because better pay can equal more customer service and in turn higher sales.
When was the last time you were in a bookstore? I am working on a few books now, and none of them are in paper form.
Whew, glad you, the master author, has set the tone and medium for every single author the world over. What would we do without your superior skill set?!?!?!

Huh? Not following you here, what are you trying to say?
Also, if this bookstore can't pay it's employees a livable wage, they shouldn't be open in the first place.
the question then becomes, "what is a liveable wage?" and in truth no one can truly answer that question. you can certainly try, but the reality is that there are too many different areas of the country where teh cost of living is different.

One has to look at the cost of living in SF to know what a liveable wage is there.
