It basically comes down to what Hannah Arendt calls "Little Eichmanns." There were so many damn murderers in Europe's system of concentration camps that post war, there's no way that all of them could be accounted for. This guy even spent a good while in a British POW camp IN Britain totally undetected because he lied about the nature of his service. What could the British do at that point? That was a real conflagration on the ground in Europe, and with all the western powers plus Russia almost immediately descending into a Cold War posture, catching these criminals became secondary before becoming totally unimportant.
Basically, post war Europe was an effin' mess.
Sad thing is that thousands more who are worse than him never came to justice. Just think...the main murderers were the Germans, Austrians, Ukranians, Latvians, Lithuanians, Estonians, Belorussians, Croatians, and to a far lesser extent, the Poles.
Few non German Nazis were ever called to account for what they did even though non Germans were often doing most of the dirty work in the camps and the main participants in the massacres.

It's not just the old Nazis. The United States has lots of old war criminals from all over the world living here.
Our muti-cultured society makes them all easy to find a place to fit into, and this is a mighty big country. The fugitives who are able to escape and get here already have more ability to blend in anonymously than their comrades who were caught had.
The U.S. is also mighty reluctant to turn over war criminals that we had some involvement with back in the day.
Our CIA played the major lead in bringing down the democratically elected Allende regime in Chilé, a nation that has always been a strong S. American ally, and many of the former military officers who took over as a junta and ran a joint dictatorship under Pinoche for the following 17 years are still alive, still unpunished for civilian murder and other major felonies, and are living in the U.S.
Some have been found out years ago, and have avoided formal extradition requests ever since. A request is a request; the U.S. is not compelled to extradite.
lets not forget the Nazis put us on the moon among other great things. Look at the giant tech leaps we made AFTER WW 2 was over, think Americans came up with all that crap???? research Operation Paperclip, Operation Alsos, Op Epsilon... Am I the only one who thinks it's absurd that he's being charged for this? Was he not just following orders? Even if he thought what was happening was important, I just can't help but feel that this is unjust. The US made amends with England quite soon after the Revolution, which is especially impressive for the British. So why treat this man so different? What he did was undeniably wrong, but jesus, he's 93 years old and served a country that doesn't even exist anymore, and hasn't for over 50 years.

I don't know about "de" but I do believe 6 million did die in the camps from disease,starvation, and direct extermination. Toward the end of the Third Reich, record keeping broke down thus the hundreds of thousands that died were never counted by the normally precise Germans.

Butchering children is an unforgivable act.
Well, to be fair, he never butchered anyone. The question is really about what level of responsibility a person has by being a part of effectively a criminal organization. Especially if said criminal organization is "your government".
If we go by the logic of this case, anyone who worked for the German government between 1939 and 1945, regardless of their job, and who were aware that prisoners were being intentionally killed by the Nazis, is an accessory to murder.
Such logic would probably have made most of the German Army, pretty much all of the SS, and every concentration camp guard, an accessory to murder.
If that had been the logic since the end of WWII, it would have meant the prosecutions of literally millions of Germans, Austrians, Hungarians, Czechs, etc. Almost all of them having never killed anyone, and almost all of them probably having deplored the violence when they saw it, but really didn't see anything they could do about it.
It would have been a witch hunt on a massive scale. A total impractical absurdity. Which is exactly why it didn't happen.
So why is this man being targeted now? Is it really about "justice"? Not only is this man 93 years old, and never killed anyone, and never even harmed anyone, and who even complained about the violence and requested to be transferred away from his job. The man has even been a major force in trying to "Stop" holocaust denial.
This trial is nothing but a show, put on by Jewish Zionists, who have made their living on the holocaust. It is the source of both their power, and their identity.
This is a purely emotional reaction and emotions should not rule the day.

It's funny how bats**t crazy people will go when it's suggested that a certain amount of WWII and/or holocaust history has been propagandized. Personally, I'm more interested in accuracy than anything else. If a gas chamber is fake, it's probably worth knowing about.
Prisoner massacres by all three players (Axis, Soviet, Anglo American) make for some interesting reading. I suspect that people don't know just how many Germans were shot out of hand once in custody.
