It's not about quantity, they aren't getting enough food. Most of what is consumed is chemicals aka drugs
Same thing when you visit third world countries and see their bellies all blown up.. as if they were full of

Lingerie:Kiss My Lingerie, an adult store in Gonzales, Louisiana, accepts EBT. Other adult stores have also been known to accept welfare transactions. In this case, officials said the store doesn’t violate the rules for EBT because of discrepancies in the law.
Shoes: While Payless ShoeSource is known for their BOGO sales, they’re certainly not the cheapest place to buy shoes. Despite the prices and functionality, they also accept EBT.
Strip clubs: Last year, the New York Post reported that FOIA requests revealed welfare recipients were regularly making EBT withdrawals at the ATMs near and inside infamous porn shops, liquor stores, lounges and hookah parlors. Technically, it also doesn’t break the law because of the “cash assistance program.”
Lobster: There have been multiple cases of this. As long as it’s not tobacco or alcohol, you’re golden.
Starbucks: While corporate stores don’t accept EBT, any Starbucks in a Target or grocery chain is considered a grocery item. So $7.00 for a mocha cookie crumble frappuccino and pumpkin loaf? Go.
Cold hard cash: Some people are in the business of selling their EBT benefits for cash. Craigslist has been a great conduit for these “creative entrepreneurs.”
K-cups: A lot of people don’t buy coffee in this form because it’s too expensive, but it’s not off limits in the world of welfare.
Cupcakes/Gourmet cakes: It’s considered food, no matter the price. Hello, non-essential $45 cake.

This thread is about Food Stamps. You are confusing two programs, which are VERY DIFFERENT.
That cash given is TO BE PAID BACK. It's a loan. They'll even place a lien on your house upon your death to re-coup the $$
If you don't like the rules that go along with SNAP benefits, how about you start paying for your own food?
I am not on SNAP. I support in general rules to go along with SNAP benefits. These specific rules are dumb and counterproductive. Prescribing what brands people can buy, banning bulk purchases, completely irrational bans like against peanuts. Sometimes you need to step back and say, "okay, I'm down with the principles, but the implementation is garbage."

ONLY food can be purchased with the FOOD part of the EBT card; as has been said repeatedly, TANF, child support, and other cash payments are also included on the same EBT card.
Some homeless can purchase hot already prepared foods.

I've been using food stamps long enough to know that anything left on the EBT card does roll over to the next month, and the month after that...
Normally I spend all my food stamps (plus cash) at the beginning of the month. I hate grocery shopping and am thankful for my upright freezer!

I received AFDC 30 years ago... no one has ever come after me to pay any of it back. (I guess that is because I am still poor.)
Things are different for those now on TANF: once paternity is established they go after the father for child support (or the mother if she doesn't have custody.) This support money is sent to the state. I had a friend who (for years) never saw a penny of the child support her kids were getting. The state kept it as "pay back" and gave her the normal amount that three kids would normally get for TANF. It wasn't long before she decided to leave the welfare rolls and just collect the child support: it was $500 more than she was getting from TANF and foodstamps combined.

exactly..I had two elderly neighbors who couldn't get to the store very often, so when I went grocery shopping I used 3 debit cards, 2 of theirs and my own- good thing some busybody wasn't standing behind me they would have thought I had 3 food stamp accounts
His fiancée gets SNAP. I don't see them marrying anytime soon.
Now, when he earns enough to make the EITC more than the SNAP benefits he may be wise to claim them and I will have to cut down on the seafood and steaks.
All I can say is the three SNAP beneficiaries in my household eat pretty darn well. The youngest gets free mother's milk.
Guess we should all live rent free and apply for SNAP.....I think this is what gets people, after all the children do need to eat.

Oh my from the Daily Caller, now that is a fine source for factual information Clearly whoever wrote this does not know the difference between SNAP (food stamp benefits) and cash assistance. All benefits come on the same card, there is no rule against buying shoes, yes even poor people wear shoes. An EBT card with a cash benefit is like your bank debit card, it is accepted almost anywhere.
And as far as liquor stores, I worked with some low income women who would got a whopping $383 cash benefit for themselves and two kids, and they would go to liquor stores, but not to buy booze or cigarettes, they would buy a pack of gum and get $20 cash back because there was no cash withdrawl fee as there would have been in a bank.
As far as food, unless you are homeless and have no way to cook meals and get a special kind of SNAP card that allows 'to go' meals, you can't buy any prepared food- none at all; no subway, no KFC, no Taco Bell. Look up the rules yourself.
And by the way, It's always a good idea to check your data for accuracy rather than just do a cut and paste

You don't have to pay back TANF, but if a single person gets limited general welfare from the county (very rare since the recession) they do have to pay that back and actually have to sign papers when they get it that they will pay it back.
