Stop glorifying the military and all its unjust actions
Its a gubberment jobs program that makes us all poorer, less safe and destroys families.
What baloney! Makes us less safe? Who do you think defends this country against our enemies?
A good long time in the military might do you some good, and make you appreciate this country and the men and women who defend your right to spew this kind of crap!
I also am very proud to be a US citizen and proud to have served my country as many of my relatives did from revolutionary war to today. Monday is a day to remember all those that died serving it which I will do as I knew quite a few; may they RIP.
One of my ancestors (Samuel Otis) held the Bible for George Washington's Inauguration, our first Commander-in-Chief.
Another was James Otis 'The Patriot,' who argued against the "Writs of Assistance" before the Supreme Court.
I am ashamed of the American right who cheer every time we go off to unjust wars started by politicians who never served in a war themselves.
Unfortunately many of those who died in war didn't die defending our freedoms, they died at the hands of politicians who don't know and don't give a crap about those who are lost.
I live just outside of Washington, DC. And every year at this time (memorial Day) we have the Rolling Thunder guys riding into town on their Harleys to commemorate the holiday. Mostly Vietnam war vets plus the later wars in Irag and Afghanistan. And maybe even a few Korea vets. Great bunch of guys (and gals). I always give them a little salute when I see them rolling down the roads.
I don't need either thanks or a yellow ribbon refrigerator magnet.
I didn't volunteer because it was my patriotic duty. I volunteered because it was a way to get out of a little town in Idaho and see the world. Once I was in the Navy, I found a lot of guys were just like me. They volunteered for the same reason.
We all did our duty because it was part of the deal, and I received exactly what I wanted from my period of service. I don't need to be thanked for something I wanted and got. Over the years, I continued to get benefits from the few years I served, too. Good ones, like college, job assistance, medical assistance, and other stuff.
Thanks, America, for footing my bills. No need to thank me for what turned out to be a pretty good deal. I was happy to live up to my end of the bargain, and I knew what I was getting into.

This. I would never question someone's bravey or patriotism who serves, but most of those people should of never been put in a position to serve. Last real imminent threat was the Cuban missile crisis and last threat that required boots on the ground was WW2.

Some people don't think creating new enemies and meddling in the world's affairs defends this country.
