Exactly what came to mind. It is good that this happened but why haven't the banking leaders been arrested? Paying a fine and saying "I'm Sorry" does not cut it. Why are the FIFA officials worst than the scum on Wall Street?

But .... FIFA has no government regulation
based on rightwing logic, shouldn't FIFA be a SHINING EXAMPLE of their policies at work?

For people that don't know,
anytime a government threatens a FIFA official with corruption charges, FIFA responds by saying that the teams from that country won't be allowed to play in any FIFA tournament.

The bankers had better lawyers. They knew just where the line went from civil issues to criminal, and kept they're toes just behind that line.

Soccer isn't a vital lifeline of the world economy. The belief, and it's erroneous, that any arrests or condemnation of the banking industry would shatter confidence in the market and send it into a downward spiral making things worse. You'd think cleaning the system up would unclog all the shady dealings but the bulk of the industry is engaged in some rather shady dealings. It almost makes it seem as though corruption is the norm.

...reacting to extradition requests from the US. Those arrested will be deported here.

No they didn't. Just to pick the easy low hanging fruit, there is no question that Countrywide completely ran afoul of Sarbanes/Oxley. But I'm going way off topic and will drop it.

FIFA is headquartered in Zurich so Switzerland has jurisdiction over them.

You request for extradition of people who have already been arrested. Either way, I was just correcting the misinformation in the title which declares US made the arrests.

You'd have to ask President Obama's DOJ why they didn't go after the latest set of bankers with fraud charges and pursue prison sentences. I guess the Democrats feel they would lose too much money if that were to happen.

I think they should have done so, and I also feel every administrator prior to this one should have.
