History of gun-control legislation - The Washington Post

The first Federal gun control law was the National Firearms Act of 1934. However, I'm sure there are a few birthers out there who can somehow connect this act to Obama, since he's been blamed for things that happened when he was in grammar school, so why not before he was born?
LOL! You jumped the shark with the "Birthers" insult.

But to the point. One should quickly realize that in 1934 FDR was President and thus the one responsible for this law. Obama, for his part, has often quoted FDR as rationale for his actions today. So, you lose on that argument.

Why not focus the effort on the one that's more likely to yield results? Because it targets people instead of the evil, inanimate objects? Oops that doesn't work because it actually targets the rights of people as related to those inanimate objects.
During 12 years of Stop and Frisk and the search of over 5 million individuals the NYPD recovered a gun less than 0.02 percent of the time. During that 12-year period, police department data show that out of more than 5 million stops, a quarter of them of young black men who made up just 1.9 percent of the city's population. Sounds like the program was a good and effective use of man hours.

Exactly.

Of course this is related to race. And of course the perp is mentally ill. Anyone who shoots and kills another human being for reasons other than self defense is fricken mentally ill.

What is going on in this thread is reaction to the plethora of race threads over in the P&OC forum. Everything that has been said here, gets said over there, and the people here are being sarcastic about it. The fact is, we have a huge problem in this country, and until we all stop with the horse spit, and stop telling each other we can't talk about it, we're going to continue to have this problem. It's time that we discuss EXACTLY what is going on....unfortunately, it doesn't seem that anyone wants to do that. It's easier to pretend it doesn't exist, or get offended at the slightest mention of anything that makes some people uncomfortable.

But hey, maybe that's all part of the plan. Keep us divided and arguing with each other so we don't pay attention to what else is going on.

Anyway, it's low to kill any innocent person, but it's even lower to kill people attending church. (That is my opinion, I'm not interested in some dumb *** debate about religion.)

RIP to the victims, and condolences to their family and friends.

I got to finally see the kid that did this terrible act on TV last night. Just to look at his pictures you can tell he is a hateful, mean spirited person with a bunch of issues. (He also needs a better barber)

What a POS he is and I hope they fry the little punk.

Is it just hindsight or do all the nutcases that do these mass shootings just look off when you see them ? They just look so full of rage....they would definitely stick out in society.

Gun control is needed now more than ever. No background checks? Really? Ridiculous.

How can you have a discussion when only one side of the discussion is allowed? Anyone who articulates the other side of the issue is in danger of losing his or her livelihood. We also never seem to get past the blame part of the discussion and get to the part where we seriously consider how to actually address the problem. We're not mature enough as a society to have this conversation. Not even close.
