No lower wages, just a lot lower cost of doing business. Just like CO where you live.

Ironically my grandparents when they retired moved to Daytona Beach, Florida but ended up coming back a few short years later. It wasn't that they hated the weather, or the south in general, but they missed the family. 2 absolutely wonderful people, and I miss them terribly. But of course that is a rare instance, and you don't hear that.

To add, Chicago which was a pretty cool place when I went there back in the day, better watch it with their crappy politics, and horrible crime or they're going to end up like Detroit! It's too bad that Detroit a once great American city now resembles parts of the 3rd world. Even though I'm a "Buckeye" and there is that rivalry with our neighbors to the north, I'd love to see them turn it around. We are here to a degree. At least they're trying like hell here to do so! I mean the neighborhoods still suck, but downtown has a lot of development going on, is growing, and there is a lot to do down there. Not to mention a new convention center, a casino, films being shot here, and of course the RNC is coming. Not that I have any love for the Republicans anymore than Democrats, but it is good revenue for this region. Sadly though the neighborhoods are still crumbling along with infrastructure and the residents of Cleveland are actually trying petition to recall the mayor. I guess maybe they're finally realizing how bad one party rule for too long can be! Better late than never. I'll say this... I like the fact that I'm close enough to get downtown in less than 40 minutes if I want to catch the urban vibe, and far enough away where it's quiet and in a semi-rural setting.

I've noticed it for decades, the liberals and/or democrats divide everyone by race, gender, skin color, etc... where they create a box with a label on it. Everyone 'this' or 'that' gets identified, categorized, stigmatized, and stereotyped, and goes into their box.

There are plenty of best cities to live in candidates in the West and North East.

Well, you know I was just being a smartass. Some people do actually move north when they retire. I just love to counter the idiots who are always denigrating the South. It may be a racial thing.

Except, of course, that people do retire and move to the South, by the droves.
