Nebraska Beef Ltd, agreed to pay Uncle Sam a $200,000 civil penalty and establish an uncapped back pay fund to compensate individuals who lost wages because they couldn’t prove they are in the county legally. Additionally, the business will undergo “compliance monitoring,” which means big brother will be watching very closely.

The head of the DOJ’s civil rights division explains that the agency is on a mission to eliminate “unnecessary and discriminatory barriers to employment” so workers can support their families and contribute to the U.S. economy.

Nice spin, though.
WTF are you talking about? Here, in the first paragraph - In particular, OSC investigated whether the company was requiring non-U.S. citizen employees, because of their citizenship status, to present proof of their immigration status for the employment eligibility verification process.

According to the linked document the OP is right. They’re being fined for following the law. No wonder there's no respect for government anymore.

It's obvious none of you has been in charge of filling out an I9 form.

First frigging paragraph.

Now,

So, as long as you run eVerify on every applicant, a company would be okay? The press release is a little confusing.

The pr is confusing, Mick. I agree.

When an employer hires a citizen, the employer is required to receive proof of citizenship.

From a non-citizen, an employer is required to obtain proof of that worker's immigration status and eligibility to work in this country. This proof would not be required of a citizen, as a citizen would not have any immigration status proof, beyond being a citizen.

I'm no lawyer, but it appears to me that the DOJ is punishing a company for obeying the law to not hire illegal aliens.

Whacked them on a technicality
Lawyers did a clever spin and got some money
The final frontier the right to hire and fire
The reason they hired lawyers and sued is bek there were illegals working there and they want to intimidate the company from checking
Civil right law has become a tool for much evil but was meant to do good

Funny I didn't see a WORD about "color of skin" in the article

What I DID see was, "being “targeted” because of their citizenship status. “The department’s investigation found that the company required non-U.S. citizens, but not similarly-situated U.S. citizens, to present specific documentary proof of their immigration status to verify their employment eligibility,” the DOJ claims.

Your twisted bias is showing!

Also, why do citizens need to provide proof of citizenship? To make illegals feel happy and “equal” even though they are absolutely not according to our employment laws. It is illegal to hire them.
Bravo, a good explanation!

Default US Company fined for checking to see if new hires were illegal aliens

Well, he said he would fundamentally transform America.

Fine companies for obeying the law, Men are women because they say so, White people are Native Americans or black, because they say so. Dozens of states who vote against same-sex marriages are over-ruled by judges. Vets can't get Health care, but Illegals can. Black lives matter, but Policeman lives don't. Islamic extremists murder Americans but it's called workplace violence.

Up is down and down is up. The world is on it's head.
