The best set of data is the FBI statistics which have been segregated by zip code. If we exclude suicide, and remove the zip codes in the inner cities commonly associated with gang violence, the US has the lowest gun-related death rate per-capita in the world. In cities all across America, millions of people own guns that never harm anyone.
Parts of Chicago, Oakland, Baltimore, Oakland/Richmond, Los Angeles, St. Louis and Houston. Neighborhoods in those regions are killing zones. Nobody says sheet.
There is an enemy, within our country, that is killing thousands of Americans who are ambushed in theaters, malls, churches, and schools!
The only enemies in our schools are the idiots who turned the place where our children spend the majority of their day into hunting preserves for the criminally insane. If you were truly worried about the safety of our children you would be calling for public schools to have the same level of protection that the children of the elite enjoy at their private schools, i.e. armed guards.
Instead, you want to take the stance that gun free zones aren't enough and further infringe on the rights of Americans to defend themselves. You're emotional and illogical when it comes to the issue of firearms. You just want them gone, because your skewed thought process says that if we just didn't have firearms we wouldn't have any murder. Those of us in the real world understand that evil and crazy exist in this world and are very well entrenched. Therefore, having the ability and the means to defend ourselves and others from those that are evil and crazy is an important part of being what is called a responsible adult.
Tell you what, if you truly believe that gun free zones work and Americans should not have the right to keep and bear firearms, start a movement to remove the armed guards from elite private schools and from the employ of government officials, up to and including the President. After all, they are citizens as well and should not have any more protection than what the rest of us have.
