U.S. military cargo planes gave 50 tons of ammunition to rebel groups overnight in northern Syria, using an air drop of 112 pallets as the first step in the Obama Administration's urgent effort to find new ways to support those groups.

Details of the air mission over Syria were confirmed by a U.S. official not authorized to speak publicly because the details have not yet been formally announced.

C-17s, accompanied by fighter escort aircraft, dropped small arms ammunition and other items like hand grenades in Hasakah province in northern Syria to a coalition of rebels groups vetted by the US, known as the Syrian Arab Coalition.

What kind of moron insists, time after time, on arming radical Islamic terrorists? Especially now, with a responsible country supporting the legitimate, SECTARIAN government of Syria. I hope that none of these weapons are used to slaughter Russian soldiers...or worse end up being used against ours.

Mindboggling that any kind of fool insists on doing so. And that includes both Obama and his supporters of this action in Congress. Do you refuse to learn? What person with half a brain wants to overthrow a legitimate, secular government and replace them with Islamic extremists?

This pisses me off too. Better Assad than IS.

Agreed. No surprise about Obama supporting Islamists over a secular government, but what the heck are some Republicans in congress doing?

Who knows!! I have since backtracked my support of arming the moderate Syrian rebels mainly the Free Syrian Army (FSA) though not anymore as just about every moderate rebel is either dead or has joined a terrorist organization. I don't support Al Assad either but realistically I would rather have a dictator in control of a nation that can't control itself then a radical Islamic group who wants to establish a worldwide Caliphate. If it was up to me I would give Turkey permission to establish a safe zone along the Northern Syrian border with Turkey that would provide refuge for refugees who have had to leave their homes due to the conflict. I would stop all shipment of arms and humanitarian aids to all rebel groups in Syria and direct all of the aid to the Kurdish forces and ask (make) Turkey stop bombing the Kurds and ask the Kurds in return not to mess with Turkey. Obama should have opened dialogue with Putin and coordinated airstrikes and military operations alongside Russian forces. We don't have to support Assad but we need to use common sense in the current situation and push for intensive dialogue between the Syrian Government and rebel groups once this conflict ends. Since we don't want a repeat of what happened in Libya with them currently being in another civil war I would place thousands of UN Peacekeepers throughout the country to help with humanitarian aid and rebuilding the infrastructure.

Isn't anyone else getting tired of having to fix these Middle Eastern countries for them when we could be worrying about ourselves? Vote for me I'm 19 and I personally think I could do a better job on foreign policy then the current President!

Typical shortsighted U.S. foreign policy. The absolute definition of idiocy. I'm not in the least surprised however as this has been the case for much longer than my 62 years of life.

Especially John McCain who I use to agree with on arming the moderate Syrian rebels. Arm the Kurds they are a very peaceful brave people who are more then willing to fight ISIS and bring a legitimate democratic government to the Middle East. I want them to get a country of their own one day.

Well of course. How else do you expect ISIS to get their guns and ammo.

I hope we dropped some Humvees and tanks for them too. Maybe we should send some fighter jets too, so they have a fair fight.

Ah heck, give em the launch codes!

The Kurds are one of few bright spots in the ME, and from what I know, I do respect them. I wish them the best. But I no longer agree with either arming them or worse, putting our servicemen at risk to help them. We have sacrificed too many lives already for the people of the ME. It's up to them to make something of their homes. Not ours.

We have lost way to many lives in the Middle East which I as of last year deemed is unfixable. I'm serious we cannot fix the ME whatsoever as there is always a conflict breaking out between Shiites and Sunnis, ethnic groups and countries. The only country that I place my full support behind so far in the region is Israel which values democracy and human rights. It's time other countries (Russia, China and Israel) attempt to fix the Middle East.

Honestly, Israel needs to protect it's people and nothing more. Much like us, there is no reason for them to sacrifice the lives of their people for the rest of the ME. Muslims have been killing each other for centuries, nothing will change that. If Russia or China want to give it a go...fine I guess. I hope that not too many of their young men and women pay the price for their government's adventure.

The only thing dumber than getting involved and putting our people at risk in the ME...is putting people here at risk by importing those from the ME that embrace this violent culture.
