I think "some" (not many, but some) are waking up to the fact that by listening to the hard right-wingers has caused a lot of them that "live poor" to "vote rich". When you're earning $40K/year and barely keeping your head above water, voting a tax cut to Limbaugh, Rumsfeld, Paris Hilton and other multi-millionaires doesn't make any sense, unless you've "drunk the Kool-Aid"

Voting to explicitly punish others because it has no impact on you makes little sense as well. Being well read and coming to your own conclusions is priceless.

I think many listen because there's not much else on while driving, and we like talk radio. That's why I got XM... much better choice of talk radio. I thankfully haven't listened to Limbaugh or Savage for more than 3 minutes while I try to find my XM remote, in the past 3 years.

None of it is real anyway. It is to politics what the WWF is to sports. Just a place for people to vent and be entertained. If it had any real influence on whom people vote for Thompson would be the frontrunner.

Another of the inconsistencies? Those who listen to Rush and Hannity are "mind-numbed robots". Now they aren't even influenced by these two anymore? Go figure!!

Do you think Rush's take on things like the war in Iraq or the election are impacting voters?

I really don't see Republicans moderating, thus not displaying their influence diminishing very much. Actually, I don't think they have ever had all that much influence on their audience; more likely the other way around.

Like I said, at the end of the day, people think for themselves... much more than some give them credit for.
I've listened to Rush a lot over the years. I like him, and he is entertaining, but I have NEVER gone along with everything he says, just because I listen to him and agree with a good bit of what he says. He only reflects some of what I already believe, but what I believe is not molded by him.

For example, this year I have narrowed my favorites down to Obama, Huckabee, and Ron Paul?. Odd, isn't it?
Obama because he seems sincere, Huckabee for what he did in Arkansas, and Ron Paul because he believes in a return to the original intent of the founding fathers.
Which one of these did Rush tell me to vote for?

Interesting point about the audience and influence, would you provide a supplementary explanation of what this means?

I listen to Neil Boortz here in the Atlanta area, boortz.com: The world-famous Internet site of the Nationally Syndicated Neal Boortz Show!, and he's hillarious. He's a libertarian but he'll take shots at anyone. He won't take calls on abortion.

I don't agree with everything he says but he has me hooked on the fair tax, Americans For Fair Taxation:

...oh yeah, after Boortz, Clark Howard comes on. Man he's saved me money! clarkhoward.com: Save more, spend less and avoid ripoffs

I think that the very notion of being a conservative has changed.. many of the talk show hosts are old school conservatives, and the reality of getting elected means you have to appeal to the swing voters who are becoming more and more progressive and it has caused for many conservative talk show hosts to actually alienate themselves and their ideals. Its funny that when you ask a true conservative.. they gasp at the thought of endorsing McCain... yet he seems to be the frontrunner for the republican party... that in itself shows the dynamic that is happening in the political arena for the republicans... to win the elections they are having to become more progressive.. which has distanced themselves from their base... they realize that their base alone is not enough to beat the democrats... it really is an interesting dynamic... many of the republican candidates have gotten a lesson in progressive ideals and are adopting them to stay alive... which is going against the very nature of what their position has always been... so it doesn't just disconnect the party... but it leaves many upset and angry at their change in core values... and leaves many others skeptical as to what they really stand for.. thus causing them to weigh the issues against what has always been promoted under conservative ideals... and many are choosing to follow such moves and distance themselves from that old school conservative idealogy...
lets not forget the fact that george bush has not done the conservative movement much justice... many people have begun to question exactly what it means to be conservative... whether we want to admit it or not.. the only thing that never changes is that things are always changing.. and conservatives fundamentally do not adapt to change very well... and dubya has definetely rolled some heads causing the kind of change giving you the highest approval rating of any president to the lowest.... that is drastic change in a very short period of time...
