In recent years', more and more malls and retail stores has started opening on Thanksgiving Day (which is traditionally a big family holiday) due to competition from other malls and stores that has started opening earlier and earlier, but also some now full-day shopping on the entire holiday. However, some stores still value their employees and decides to remain closed. Few New England states ban stores from being open on Thanksgiving as part of "blue laws".
Do you believe malls and retail stores should be mandated to stay closed on Thanksgiving Day?
the world works 24 hours a day 365 days a year. there is always someone working on holidays. want to stay home with the family at holiday time, make sure you work in a field that closes on holidays and is closed on Sat. and Sun.

If you are going to ban malls and retail stores, what about utilities? The malls and store need electricity, water, sewage, etc, even on Thanksgiving. I did my thirty years with a electric utility and we always had people on shift 7/24/360.
Do you want to just shut down everything?
It's a shame that manufacturing has largely disappeared. Then some of the malcontents could really ***** about having to work inconvenient shifts, days and times.
Is this like being a floral designer, but wanting Valentines day off?
Better not work in food service(unless Chick-fil-a) or for big sporting events(football stadiums) or any of the other vast professions that demand you be at work on Thanksgiving day.

Ask me this question 2 years ago, and I would have been a firm no.
But today I am a yes.
The reason why is that I would in retail and over the last couple of years, there have been some changes that are horrible for workers, and no one signed up for it.
With stores opening earlier and earlier, the "rush" when you open the doors isnt all that bad any more. But since the stores are now open for say 36 hours straight, and workers are working longer hours, it causes fatigue and not coming to work on thanksgiving/Black Friday is automatic termination for many companies.
Ill give an example.
Big Box Store opens at 6 PM Thanksgiving day, worker has 10 hour shift from 6 to 4 a.m., their friday shift starts at 6 AM.. Well, current regulations say that a worker must have 8 hours between their previous shift when changing calendar days, There are multiple ways to get around this, and the main one is defining a shift as "4 hours" that way , the "counter" starts at 10 P.M.for the next shift.
So now, you have someone working from 6PM to 4, and then from 6 AM to 4pm. In my opinion, that is very dangerous
