If that is the case, why shouldn't businesses be closed every Sunday too? The truth is, this is what a consumer based economy looks like, not much is going to change that, though there is nothing wrong with anyone making the personal choice to stay home and not partake in any stores that are open. If no one showed up, there would be no need to be open.

It is just simple logic, don't want to work on the holidays, don't take jobs open on the holidays.
It's just simple logic - people often take certain jobs because they don't have too many choices.
And not all families are willing ( or have opportunities) to "work around holidays." So don't judge others please according to your own situation as if it's easy for you, it's the same for everyone.

I am well aware of that, but too bad, that is life. Sometimes being an adult means doing something you don't want to do because you have to do it. Thanksgiving is just a dinner and Christmas is just opening presents, both things are things that can be done any day. Sure for some that might not be an option and I feel bad for them, hopefully they will be able to find a better job that isn't working on the holidays.

And if you have forgotten already, I have worked in the hotel industry for years, so I have worked my fair share of holidays, even if I didn't want to because hotels never close, but I knew that when I took the jobs.

You know, I feel like I should make an extensive comment on that, but it's getting late. Whenever I have a chance, I'll get back to it; I think it's worth looking deeper into this particular subject.

No of course not! Work should never be closed! We all should be working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week making 0.01 cents an hour and never have any free time or fun! If you think otherwise then you're just lazy and dumb socialist! Work, work, work!! Remember that corporations are people too!

However, some stores still value their employees and decides to remain closed. Few New England states ban stores from being open on Thanksgiving as part of "blue laws".

Do you believe malls and retail stores should be mandated to stay closed on Thanksgiving Day?
I do NOT support a law banning stores from being open on holidays, though I do sympathize with the sentiment....

Remember when we had a society that actually valued things like tradition and family? Remember when we used to hold those things sacred?

Do you want to just shut down everything?
So they did get five days off at some point then?...

No law. However stores that I don't use can close if they want.

The midnight sales were fun, but last year was a scam, they had like two discount tv's per store, it was just to sucker people in.

There are people who have no family or family that does not live near them, who go out to dinner on Thanksgiving and then go shopping. This is usually senior citizens. For them, limited crowds and sale items, is a good thing. This also holds true for sales people who work that day. I don't think the government has any right to interfere with the retail stores.
