Some responders have brought up the 1980's. I remember when there was a huge humanitarian effort put forth for the starving people of Ethiopia. I don't remember if 10's of thousands of them were picked up and spread around the world. If I remember correctly the world gave aide to them until the drought was over and they were back on their feet.
Why can't we do the same thing with the Syrians? Why can't the neighboring nations and the UN setup safe zones for them and when the war is over they can go back home?
I just think it is weird to uproot people from their homeland and place them in another area that is totally foreign to them.
The Syrians look different than most Canadians, speak a different language and have totally different culture and religious beliefs.
The biggest problem I see is that when all these supplanted people don't embrace their new homeland but instead choose to live the way they used to which usually means they bring the same old problems with them that they were fleeing in the first place.
