Just curious, realistically speaking what will happen to Abortion and Same Sex Marriage if a Republican wins, especially a very conservative one?

Nothing. They lost those fights. They always knew it would happen so I don't expect them to bring the issue up again.

Nothing until/unless the makeup of the Supreme Court changes. Abortion and same sex marriage laws have been enforced by the court, not by the president or Congress.

I disagree, especially with same-sex marriage. Conservatives can't let that fight go. If somebody like Huckabee gets in he will likely issue an executive order to ignore the SCOTUS decision. What will happen after that, I'm not sure, as there isn't any time in history where a President has tried to do that.

Why would someone like Huckabee get in?

I think they have more important things to worry about before getting involved in uphill battles on social issues. Like actually winning a war instead of retreating, getting better trade deals, moving the economy forward again, and national security. Those are the most immediate problems to a conservative like me, who by the way, is IN a same sex marriage.

This is how I feel... I think social issues have relevancy, but the government has the basics to take care of. I have some friends who are seem to think they are the only issues that matter.

I have friends who have brought up this issue with the supreme court justices. After expanding social rights, have they ever in history been reversed? I don't think my brother who is very right wing wants to bother with doing that.
There is the defunding of Planned Parenthood to deal with if a conservative wins... but when the Republican candidates confirm their pro life positions, what do their supporters want or expect them to do?

You would think so, but no, they don't.

They will never stop trying to ban abortion and I believe they will never stop trying to ban same sex marriage either.

How The Anti-Abortion Movement Keeps On Fighting

Quote:
All that changed following the 2010 midterm election, which saw Republicans take the House of Representatives. The following year, a record 92 restrictions were enacted, breaking the previous 1973 record. In the past five years, 288 such laws have been enacted, most of them having to do with requirements or restrictions around counseling, insurance coverage, later-term abortions, medication abortion, like Mifeprex, or parental involvement.

Now, imagine if they had a Republican President to back them up and appoint Supreme Court justices.

You are in a same sex marriage now, but don't think for a minute that Republicans won't take that right away given the chance.

Its like liberals and gun control. They make a big deal about wanting gun control and promising it, but will never try to deliver because they know nobody wants it or will tolerate it, including a big percentage of the left. Obama did it and he kicked a hornets nest and got stung badly. And even then he really didn't do anything that wasn't already being done and made a non issue his focus. So don't go fear mongering, you just lose credibility.
