It's so far past the point of no return they're not even bothering hiding it.

Back in the day if current events were happening at least they would resign.

Today they're not even taking the blame.

Just accusing someone else.

And i'm not even talking about crony capitalism.

What happened??

When did it go wrong??

Such massive and systemic corruption

I think US has never been so corrupt

Yet here we are

Yes, because voters have allowed themselves to be removed from the process, it has allowed the establishment to become entrenched and too powerful for "we the people" to thwart. As a result, we are quickly slipping into a Banana Republic, where the government has carte blanche to spy on us, force us to provide private information that they now access and use against anyone who attempts to shine a light on their hypocrisy.

In return for our vote, we are promised free this and universal that, so we vote in the corruptocrats and pretend we are not losing our liberty and freedom because the media arm of the government programs us what to believe based on the DC Agenda.

It's all very 1984ish. Some of us are awake, but we are dismissed as whacko's and "extremists" who only want slaves back and women to be chattel.

You know, the old Alinsky playbook. The entrenched oligarchy in DC truly hate an educated populace and have designed the perfect welfare state to ensure that we keep moving towards an Idiocracy.

IMO of course.

Sadly, that is pretty much true.

People who aspire to political office are very self aggrandizing. They have a broken moral compass, and the law does not apply to them. It is a vile combination.

I was intimately involved in a Congressional campaign...and there was not soul involved who wouldn't lie, steal, or cheat (or run over their mother!) if they thought there was a way to "get ahead".

These people are definitely wired differently.

What I find curious is that we (including me) just stand by and watch our pockets get looted and our country fleeced. That is equally curious IMHO. But having thought about it, I don't know if I am enough of a patriot to certainly die should one object to the corruption.

Alas, America is not the country I grew up learning about in history books. It is no longer the "land of the free" because our privacy is invaded, and we are considered guilty until proven innocent. It is no longer the "home of the brave" because the media feeds us propaganda that keeps us fearful and suspicious. It is not the hero of the world; politicians drone-strike civilians in third-world countries and send courageous young men and women to die in unnecessary (but profitable) wars, without knowing the true horrors of war. The poor work harder and longer, but the rich get richer. The children of the poor remain poor because they don't have the same opportunities rich children do. We are taught to be selfish and materialistic, so that corporations can screw people over even more. Healthcare isn't even considered a basic human right!

The problem is that while Americans are generally good, kind-hearted people, we've also become apathetic; we put up with all of this ridiculousness without doing anything (I myself have only recently started paying attention). It's this apathy (and blind patriotism as well) that has gotten us into trouble, and now it might be too late to do anything about it.

I'm really sorry if I offended anyone. I don't mean this as a personal attack against other Americans; I'm just expressing my thoughts about the system.

Corruption is par for the course in DC for both parties. The scary part is the democrats openly vote for a know corrupt politician in Hillary Clinton. At least the republicans have the common decency of lying about how corrupt they are.

Eye agree. Some here are saying it has always been like this. Maybe so with regard to the one issue of corruption, depending how we define it. But it is bigger than that. There is a reason so many are saying we are going in the wrong direction, and it is getting worse. The "system" is degenerating faster and faster. And the culture, as a reflection of it, is also degenerating. I'll catch hell for saying this but I see it as symptomatic of the decline of capitalism and it's consequential declining ability to deliver quality of life, security, hope, and satisfaction.
