I see what you are saying and agree that human nature is just that.

However, I do not appreciate a university, especially one that run by the state, facilitating it. Yes, living in said residence is voluntary and technically open to all, but the main and very ignoble premise is crystal clear.

No reason they shouldn't offer the same to White students who prefer to room with other White students as well.

Step into any public school cafeteria in the country and you will see most of the Black kids sitting at one table, most of the Asians at another table, etc. Get on a city bus, look towards the back of the bus. You'll notice it's usually all Blacks. Self segregation is just human nature.

Yes, but as you yourself said, that is voluntary. The schools and city buses are not aiding and abetting it. UConn is facilitating it. There lies the difference and the beginning of the slippery slope.

If they offered it to white students, there would be worldwide condemnation. And the world would be right to do so, but thus lies the hypocrisy of the black oriented dorm.

That is so true. I work in the Title 1 schools and do remedial Math and Reading.
And to no one's surprise my groups consist of Blacks and Hispanics.

I blame the FedGov for this with their "No Child Left Behind".
Left back ? Never. Summer school ? Barely. These kids are promoted based on "potential" by the school boards at the end of the school year.

It's pretty sad that all this happened because of the carrot/stick approach by the FedGov and their $$$$ to school districts.

And the ones that suffer are the students as you noted.
Most end up at a CC in remedial classes and can't even pass those and end up dropping out.

I see no light at the end of this tunnel though. Race to the Top and Common Core do nothing to fix this problem.

This predates those mandates by years.

The alternative to social promotion (actually failing the student) results in 13, 14, 15, and even 16 year olds taking classes with 12 year olds/7th graders. They still do not grasp it and cover up the shame by becoming the Alpha Males (read disruptive) of the class.

That was my observation back in the day.

600,000+ white people died so blacks could be free and they are still ungrateful and want to undo what they died for. I believe our black community will forever stay in poverty. They have engrained the belief that they are victims into generations. I just don't see blacks in other countries crying the victim all the time and our opportunities are better here. I suspect it's because socialism takes care of them.

Yes it does but those mandates have made it even worse for minorities.
Money trumps true education now.

This was not the idea of the students but rather that of the institution.

Secondly, "black" colleges tend to be multicultural. Not only AAS attend them but also Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Latino and African students. Other groups also attend in smaller numbers.

By the time these minority kids get to middle school they've already been left back twice.
Now they cannot be left back anymore because at 16 you automagically go to HS.
