with all due respect, please understand what you are arguing about.

People (at least, the people I know) can care less about religious holidays. if you want to celebrate your religious holidays, more power to you.

The issue is

Muslims Erupt As School Board Refuses To Shut School For Islamic Holiday

Why does the school board have to say yes ?! If the school board refuses to shut school for your religious holiday, move on and celebrate that holiday at home. Eat some great food and be happy about it.

And if the school refused to close for Christmas? I can hear the screeches of outrage from here. It's one day. One day. I guarantee people are not going to be angry that they don't have to go to school that day. "Aw man, come on!!!! I REALLY wanted to go to school today instead of staying home, sleeping in, watching tv", yada yada.

Nope, already said it I won't lose any sleep over it. I will just celebrate my Christmas at home.

In my ideal world, separate religions from school or businesses, I posted earlier in this thread, but I guess you just choose not to believe me. shrug

Yes, that's what they're doing when the school closes for a holiday, they celebrate at home.

well, I personally have no problems with it. If the school says yes, then yes, if school says no, then it means no.

Maybe they should learn to accept things they cannot change.

They can go home and celebrate their holidays, but school can choose to remain open on their holidays. sounds fair to me.

That's not a good example. Christmas has been a federal holiday since 1870, and you wanna compare it to this?

I can resolve it. Keep school open all year minus weekends. You want to celebrate your holiday, don't send your kid to school that day.

I am sick of "my culture isn't getting this", "my people are going to rule the world" along with "this land was ours first." When we have this kind of division people will never see the reason to get along.

The problem here parents are only doing what they see best for them and not their child......holidays are becoming nightmare. Plus, I find it hard to believe these people want their children to actually be westernized!

Strange how easy some cultures today are able to push their holidays through without a fight and the NA were never allowed to celebrate anything........certainly could not wear the clothes of their choosing.

Santa Clause, a fictitious magical character designed by the Coke a Cola Company that travels by means of magical flying reindeer throughout the entire planet leaving presents to good boys and girls. And Retailers.

December 25 falls within the winter break. It is a federal secular holiday. I think that since 90+% of the USA population celebrates Christmas and most would keep their children out of school due to travel and celebrations that the powers that be decided might as well close school for mid year break during that time since attendance would be so low anyway.
