When U.S. Marine Corps veteran Alex Morales went to the DMV to get his license renewed in earlier December, he was asked to take off his ‘USMC’ hat for the photo.
When an official asked why he wouldn’t remove his cap, Morales made an observation that had the employees at the DMV at a loss for words.
Seeing other men wearing religious head coverings who were getting photographed with no problem, he answered: “Those men didn’t remove their head wear, I shouldn’t either.”
When he was asked why he would not remove his hat he said, "those men didn't remove their head wear, I shouldn't either". It was explained that this was their attire and their religion. Alex told the DMV person that what he had on was his attire and when he entered the Marines he declared an oath to the USA, and one nation under God, so that his oath was under God so just as good as his religion.
...DMV employees "clapped quietly" for Alex (presumably in support of his insistence upon wearing the hat), a week later she shared a second post in which Alex could be seen wearing his USMC cap in his driver's license photograph: (photo at link)
Marines remove their covers when indoors unless they are on duty (wearing a duty belt)
Exactly, I work at a sports venue that is semi indoors, when inside we need to remove our hats. This is the same as it was with boy scouts removing their hats upon entry into the dinning hall. This person just got annoyed at religious objections allowed to due their religious beliefs. Gimme a break.
I know in California statue requires a full-face photograph which displays the facial features (eyes, nose, and mouth). California residents are not required to remove any headgear that is part of his/her normal identification or worn due to religious beliefs such as the turban.
So If once a Marine always Marine, there is no former Marine, There is no ex Marine, once a Marine, always a Marine, Yes, USMC IS this veteran's identity. Judging by the photo, he displayed facial features and he did not violate any rules.
I see no problem with his photo, nor do I believe he viewed himself as God like some posters suggested.
