Wow. What a Christian thought.

/sarcasm

Though maybe I'm misunderstanding what you wrote. After all, what exactly is a 'hart attack' and a 'sex in'? Are you upset that he's not promoting outdoor sex?

Organizations have to alter their business models or be left behind.

The CEO of the Catholic Church is doing just that.

I am not a Roman Catholic, so I am in no position to judge their Pontiff.

I don't really see how the Pope is a hippie for saying to be kind to one another. If this is the case, Jesus probably smoked tons of pot.

As for a communist, it's probably not worth explaining what's wrong with that view. A communist is a very specific thing, to which the Pope is not. You could get away with saying he's a socialist, but not a communist.

Yeah, what a bummer, the new Pope is trying to get people to be less judgmental and more focused on the original message of Jesus...what a jerk.

............if only.

^^ This. Jesus condemned the Pharisees for holding to the letter of the law and not the spirit of the law. Pope Francis is doing as Jesus said - living and preaching the spirit of the law - which is the love and mercy of God. There are a lot of Christians who are no more than modern-day Pharisees - they'd be the first to condemn Jesus if he was walking around today, hanging out with sinners, and calling the "righteous" out on their hypocrisy. And, yes, I'm Catholic.

^This is so true & so relevant. I'd like to take the time to read the 256 page summary of Pope Francis' views on present day issues including sexuality, marriage, parenting, & divorce, “The Joy of Love.”

A few ideas which piqued my interest:

Quote:
If “Amoris Laetitia” is definitive about anything, it’s that Pope Francis is essentially a state’s rights guy. He uses the word “discernment” 44 times in the document and says he wants to avoid “cold bureaucratic morality” in favor of pastoral care.
Quote:
This is compassion, but it’s also realism.
Pope Francis’ Amoris Laetitia, reviewed.
Quote:
The pastoral solution lives in this realm of “particular situations,” where, as Francis insists, “constant love” must prevail over judgmentalism. Every situation is different, and a subtle moral discernment is required to see how general principles apply to it.
Quote:
Conservatives have long warned of the dangers involved in a forthright, public acknowledgment that moral complexity requires flexibility. Rules and doctrines, they worry, will be undermined if absolutist attitudes about their meaning are mitigated. The conservatives are right, and they will surely see this new exhortation as a further source of concern. Pope Francis’s emphasis on mercy toward the divorced and remarried doesn’t only mean that those people will more freely partake of Communion. It also means that the doctrine of the indissolubility of marriage, however much it is still held up as an ideal, will not grip the moral imagination of the Church as it once did.
Quote:
Pope Francis is calling many of us home, while sending no one away. “I understand those who prefer a more rigorous pastoral care which leaves no room for confusion,” he writes. “But I sincerely believe that Jesus wants a Church attentive to the goodness which the Holy Spirit sows in the midst of human weakness.”

Aren't popes kinda the yardstick for what's properly Catholic? The entire ex cathedra and whatnot...
