LOL. China has a very dense population. They mostly invested wisely in actual infrastructure so there's nothing stupid about it and nothing to actually debate about it. What does their GDP per capita in 100 years have to do with anything?
But hey..... Like how America's government acquired territory and funded westward expansion through investing in railroads by selling the land to settlers and big business? Or maybe you thought Manifest Destiny was something else....
Or by all means.... change what you meant by "...never works over the long term". I can't wait to see how you move the field goal post.
LOL! Yeah! ... Infrastructure spending! Smart spending! ... China does it right!
Like when they build entire cities... that no one lives in...
And then there is this;
-----------
Out of the entire universe of those who could have won the first phase construction contract for California’s high speed rail boondoggle, who would stand out as the last person who would win it if there were no political patronage.
Put another way, who is the most likely person to win it if there is political patronage?
Both questions have the same answer: Richard Blum, the husband of California senator Diane Feinstein.
So, who won the contract? Blum, of course, as the principle owner of Tutor Perini, the lead firm in the three-firm consortium selected by the California High Speed Rail Authority.
That would help explain headlines like this one from just over a year ago:
"Dianne Feinstein praises Jerry Brown's high-speed rail plan"
Lol! That's why I used the caveat of "mostly". Tell me how many people in China went from rural to urban areas in China in the last 2 decades? China over built residential and commercial space but how does that mean that they don't have a more modern infrastructure system than us?
But we know that is almost always the case. This one is a special case of failure.

California’s $64 Billion Bullet Train To Nowhere Gets Delayed … Again
This project is more about people getting paid than about getting people from place to place.
We are light years behind other countries when it comes to rail, if you drive a car on the east coast or just about anywhere you would understand that our love affair with cars isn't needs to end. Steps are needed now or we can continue to sit in traffic idling and going no where.
The wonderful light rail. This is what we get now.
Woman uses the light rail, but some scumbag gets off the train and follows her and then rapes her. It's like a free pipeline for the creeps from the inner city to the safe neighborhoods.
Further research shows that these cities are on a 20 year timeline and most are in year 10 or less.
