People are misguided in their choice of targets. We should instead direct our attention towards that part of our psyche that allows for the captivity of a sentient being for nothing more than to make some profit and satisfy prurient curiosity.
That Gorilla may very well have died an earlier death living in the wild but for a country that prides itself on the "give me liberty or give me death" meme; locking up gorillas seems particularly ironic.
Seriously, zoos are about conservation. That gorilla was of a species that is threatened.
What are you talking about? I guarantee you can replace that kid more easily than you can replace that gorilla.
Exactly - Harambe (the gorilla) was one of a few hundred left. That child, one of billions. Would it have been tragic had the child been killed - sure. However, it's negligence on the parent(s) that led to this scenario - not the gorilla.
If we're going to kill animals kept in captivity, because irresponsible parents can't monitor their child(ren) or idiots run amok and get into the wild animal captivities - then maybe we shouldn't have public viewing facilities, such as zoos.
I hope the parents sue that zoo for millions. There lucky that child wasn't ripped to pieces by that vicious beast.
That or they should have shot the kids parents. And let the gorilla go.....
I don't know. I'm torn on this one......
I'm sure the child's parent(s) are already in talks with an attorney regarding this and they'll probably win that case, for millions - which is utter nonsense.
A very interesting post came across my FaceBook feed. It is written by a woman that probably has more knowledge about gorillas than 99% of us here.

After screams of racism over gorilla being shot for a ‘white kid,’ meet his parents
Racism Everywhere!!
Quote:
Liberals and Black Lives Matter activists took to social media to call the shooting of the gorilla an act of racism — killing a gorilla to save a white kid.
It turned out that both parents of the boy are African-American. In the initial videos, it was hard to determine the race of the child. Not that anyone other than the race-baiters would even care to do so.
Crazy although with the "Black" world starting to really mix into "white" America; many people of ANY "race" no longer ID light skin "Black" people as Black.
