Obviously, there are going to be very strong opinions on both sides of this situation........prolife and proabortion. Let's face it, no one relishes the thoughts of having an abortion, but sometimes there are very valid reasons for considering one, such as incest, rape, possible health issues, etc.
I grew up in a time when abortions were back alley affairs, with substandard "Doctors" or home remedies. Those were horrible times for women, and many were harmed or died from these procedures.
No one will ever convince the other side that they are wrong in their beliefs but I am happy the Supreme Court has taken this position. Abortions are going to happen, whether in a clinic or in a back room somewhere, and it is much better to have them done correctly.
I see the Prolife people always wanting to see every child born, but I rarely see any of them stepping up to offer to take that child and raise it. Also, every time I see them out there carrying signs, the majority of them are 70 year old men and women who have no dog in this fight whatsoever.
How many dentists have to meet higher standards for their male patients than they do for their female patients?
How many have to meet higher standards for females. None. They are the same. They do sedation in the office for men and women without admitting privileges. Why would female procedures under sedation have to have those procedures done only by doctors with hospital admitting privileges when men don't have to have such things. Seems the men are getting short changed if that's the case.

We're back to that now with the latest SCOTUS ruling that abortion centers don't have to meet state ambulatory surgery center standards.
That's EXACTLY how we got profiteer substandard medical care abortionists like Gosnell and Brigham.
All facilities that provides surgical procedures should be held to the same high standards.
Why should abortion facilities be held to lower standards than other surgical facilities? Is it that politicians and the abortion industry believe that the availability of abortions is more important than the health and safety of the women seeking abortions?
The Texas state attorney conceded that the bad law did nothing to make abortion safer. The provisions that were struck down just made it harder to get one.

SCOTUS has ruled that abortion centers that perform surgical procedures on women don't have to meet those exact same state medical and facilities standards.
Clear stripping of women's 14th Amendment right to equal protection. This SCOTUS ruling sets the horrible legal precedent of stripping women of their Constitutional rights.
Abortion centers will have to meet standards appropriate for providing abortions. It is not needed for them to meet standards appropriate for facilities that do more complicated procedures under general anesthesia. That they apply only to women is irrelevant.
If you're good with Gosnell- and Brigham-style abortions, that's on you.
Personally, I'd prefer that women retain their 14th Amendment Constitutional right to the equal protection of state standards for surgical care.
No law will universally prevent a Gosnell. Enforcing standards appropriate for abortion centers will help, as will stopping the legal attacks on Planned Parenthood and making access to abortion for poor women easier. Standards appropriate for surgery centers are not needed.
It's true, except in the case of "back alley" abortions. I am a nurse anethetist. I have seen plenty of both.
They did have home abortions. That is the reason women have fought so hard to get them legalized.
And they DO have at-home abortions. Most of them are performed at home. 3 pills. You must receive these pills from an abortion provider.
It blows my mind when people don't seem to realize how risky pregnancy can be. My healthy, 25 year old sister in law almost lost her life giving birth to my niece last month. She developed pre-eclampsia and was monitored carefully leading up to a c-section, but had complications during and after the procedure. Baby was fine (though they discovered that she had the cord wrapped around her neck) but mom was touch and go for quite some time.
There are 8.8 deaths per 100,000 live births and 0.6 deaths per 100,000 abortions. Anyone who makes the argument that abortion is more dangerous is living in la la land.
So, InformedConsent, do you pretty strongly believe that women would be a lot safer off looking up on Google do it yourself abortion at home?
