No worries... I get it. The important point is that one makes the most of any and every opportunity. We did. That's why we no longer live in an apartment that only heats up to 59 degrees in the winter, and have socioeconomically risen significantly above that.

Fair point. There are kids whose parents have nothing saved for their college educations despite some arbitrary cutoff saying they should have. What do they do?

And anyone who thinks tuition is the bulk of what you spend sending a kid to college clearly has never sent a kid to college. Room, board, books, fees, transportation, spending money. The total of these things is much, much more than the actual tuition (at least at a Public University). If you can't afford to pay tuition, you can't afford the rest of the costs.

I have no opinion about this proposal one way or another but wanted to comment on this. It isn't just up to teachers to make sure children can read etc. Parents need to be involved as well. If your child (not YOURS in particular) cannot read once they have graduated you are also the problem. A teacher can only do so much if the disciplines aren't enhanced at home. It shouldn't be a surprise to the parents if these graduating kids cannot read since they presumably lived with them and could have perhaps gotten involved before the walk across the stage. Encourage reading a book, doing simple math at the grocery store, make the kid write actual thank you notes with proper grammar and punctuation. You know, real life stuff.

Any student whose family earns $85,000 or less would be eligible at first. The income level would go up by $10,000 each year until 2021, when anyone whose family makes $125,000 a year or less would go tuition-free.
That would cover more than 80% of all families, the Clinton campaign said."

so we get Bernie's socialist policies anyway, but get stuck with her.
Please don't refer to this as "free". That would make you look as ignorant as Clinton or Sanders, which I'm sure isn't the case. This isn't "free" college, it's college paid for by someone else.

That would be the assumption that the person going to college or their parents don't pay taxes. To sound less ignorant as typical right wingers, it would be better to say it was paid for by everyone. It would be no different on how we pay for public high schools or the military.

Probably none, they tend to get their kickbacks from corporations. Investing in education is just common sense.

Read the constitution. Where does it say anything about paying for college? Where does it say anything about funding war? Hint: Pay the most attention to Article 1, Section 8.

You do realize the Constitution doesn't need to say that for that to be a good idea. Why is it right wingers always try to turn their noses up at the idea of investing in education. It is as if they want a country full of morons....but then again, that is about the only way a guy like Trump can score votes.
