Norway is starting to change its prison system to be a bit closer to ours.
As Muslim immigration increases into Norway the crime rate has too.
Norway now imprisons the same percentage of people that the US does and is growing faster and will surpass the US. Only 6% of the US prisons are known to be foreigners, whereas Norway's foreigner prisoners are above 35%. That is 12% of Norway's population are foreigners, but above 35% foreigners in Norway's prison population. It is primarily the Muslim immigrant population, which is responsible for the majority of the rapes.
The problem with Norway imprisoning the same (and soon to be more of) percent that the US does - is Norway's immigration continues to grow - and Norway spends 3 times as much per prisoner. The US averages $31,000 per year per prisoner, Norway averages $93,000 per year per prisoner. Norway is richer than the US per capita with its national oil, but Norway is now leasing out prison space from other countries as it can't meet its prison demands as immigration is sapping its resources.

Norway is a largely rural country with a small population, it is also a very wealthy country having vast oil reserves, far more than other countries in relation to North Sea Oil.
Norway also doesn't imprison many people in the first place and doesn't have high crime rates to start with.

Actually Norway imprisons the same percent of its population that the US does at a cost of 3 times as much.
Noway is expected to surpass the US in percent imprisoned as Muslim immigration rises. Muslim immigrants are committing crimes at rates 5 times plus of that of native Norwegians, which is why Norway is now leasing out prison space from other countries.
I think we should lock up more people. There are far too many that get a second chance to go back out on the streets and hurt more law abiding folks.
We have a serious problem with illegal guns and the thugs that use them to kill and wound yet many times when one of these clowns is caught with a stack of drugs and a stolen gun the gun charges are dropped. WHY?
We have so many idiots that walk the line on the fringe of lawlessness, far more than Norway does.
For some groups prison is a culture a rite of passage.
When you watch TV shows like "scared straight" the at risk teens meet with convicts who tell them to change their ways before they end up warehoused in prison. The common trait is that the teens think it is fun to run with the bad kids and get into trouble. It is cool and nowadays widely acceptable.
We see the riots in Milwaukee where "one of their own" paid the price for being a stupid punk. The stores that were looted were liquor stores and electronics. No one ever loots the library.
If you act like a stupid animal then you should be treated like a stupid animal and be put in a cage.
The answer to our prison problem is not to follow utopians like Norway but to somehow keep people from getting into trouble in the first place but until then we need to build more prisons.
The idea that America needs to do things like (insert country name here) is more often than not an argument of people too lazy to explore their thoughts further by comparing actual statistics (like in this case, number of crimes committed, population, repeat offenders, violent versus non-violent crimes, etc etc). We have 350+ million people here in the U.S. Start with that fact in mind and watch how quickly the reality of such ideas becomes fantasy.

Exactly, and make prison a place that people fear. The hardcore felons shouldn't have any percs in prison. None of this segregating by race, gang etc. General population for everyone. No cable, no workout rooms, no air conditioning (if they have it) , no tv. A library and a chain gang , we have plenty of infrastructure in this country that needs tending too. And no more plea bargains either.
The U.S. should eliminate crimes where there is no victim and lock up far fewer people.
Yes. And then show no tolerance for repeat offenders of violent crimes.
