Texas border residents bristle at Donald Trump's talk of new wall

Texas border residents have little good to say about the existing sections of Trump's Wall. They point out that there are 1000 miles of border to wall off - and that's if you accept the common thought that the other 1000 miles is not passable, anyway so there is no need to wall that off.

Mexicans call it "El Berlin". That will get worse if it is expanded, I think, and I am against an expansion of this useless enterprise. After all, it has stopped almost no one. Last year the Border Patrol captured 147,247 illegals. Double what it was in 2009.

The "Let em wait in line" crowd is uninformed; there is no line. The "send 'em all back" crowd is equally uninformed; they have not figured out a way to find illegals and local law enforcement are prevented from asking the question of citizenship.

FTR: I am a Johnson supporter, and believe that immigration rules and laws should be completely re-written.

There is more to a wall than a physical wall but to understand that would require people to think.

Well, apparently the Orange One hasn't done much thinking then, because the wall is about the only part of his fantasy that is firm; pretty much everything else he has said about the problem of illegal immigration is nebulous and ever-changing.

How about they just reinforce some of the fence that Bush started. Then again there is a report that Mexico is building a wall of their own...Mexico wants to build a border wall with Central America to keep out illegal immigrants* | Daily Mail Online

The wall has dropped illegal immigration down to a trickle, so yes, it can work. If they want to die in the desert, fine. We only need a wall near the large urban centers where it is too easy to cross.

how can it be considered trumps wall when trump has yet to be elected president? and since trump had no connection to the wall to begin with, other than some of his taxes helped pay for the wall, it is a misnomer to call it trumps wall.

Walls are used today in Mexico 's southern border, the Israeli Wall, Eastern Europe is using tem to keep the Middle Easern Refugee problem under control. Now the UK is considering putting in a wall on the dover cliffs. New Mexico is starting their own wall finance by the citizens of New Mexico. San Diego has one and has been very effective in securing the boarder.

The wall is a proposal fro National Security. Our President and Ms. Clinton have been short sighted on this issue. Again the Administration has doctored reports on arrest and the real issues. Just like they have done combating Issa in their limited actions.

Mexico will have be consider if they want to be a partner with the US or choose to distance themselves and have the companies that are in Mexico return to the US? that is how a Trump administration would roll. there is many piece to this problem as we can all agree on.

Who cares what you name the wall as long as we build it. The only reason a wall would not work, is if we have a lame Leadership that will not let Police enforce immigration. Police should be allowed to verify Citizenship, and hold you until you can prove citizenship, and should be allowed to stop you on just that suspicion.
