About welfare people being obese...the cheaper the food, the more unhealthy and fattening it is. I think that a lot of people on welfare tend to be overweight because they are not eating a healthy diet.

In order to be eligible for Food Stamps you can't have money in the bank. Period. Now, since each state determines eligibility, it's impossible for me to go through the rules of each one. Food Stamps are paid for by the Federal Government, but regulated by the states.

Regarding Medicaid, there's no free lunch. In order to become eligible, you have to be at or below the poverty level.

Free rent? Baloney. If you live in government funded housing, 1/3 of your income is deducted for rent.

Please post on subjects on which you know the facts, not something people whine about all the time. I'm definitely for reform of the entire system, but most people who get government assistance are one step away from being homeless or going hungry.
They live very well. If they have no income none of their income is deducted for rent and look at the working people - they might easily pay HALF their income for mortgage or rent.

Imagine telling welfare types they aren't going to live with refrigerated air conditioning? That they'll have no more cable television and that food stamps will be limited to purchases of nothing but basic foods? No more ice cream, T-bone steaks, cookies, soft drinks, candies? Yet you see working people give up expensive brand names all the time and limit purchases to basic food items.

The sad truth is that people laying around on welfare live better than the working poor.

Sorry but ice cream and soft drinks are not cheap. It's not cheaper to fill a shopping cart with potato chips, cookies, candies -- it's actually cheaper to eat nutritiously.

Food stamps should be limited to bread, corn, beans, eggs and completely cut out the high priced cuts of meat and junk foods.

Oh, that makes sense.

Yes, I do agree with this statement. It doesn't apply to everyone, however. How do you think I feel? I can't get affordable health care because I'm not poor enough! I was talking to a woman who lives in the same development and she gets free medical care at a local clinic because she didn't work as many years as I did and save her money. Still, there are many people who need government assistance and would starve without it. It's a very tough subject for me, since I resent the people who drank away their paychecks and are now looking for handouts, but my heart goes out to those families and individuals who, through no fault of their own, need help to survive.

This is WHY we must hire food police.
If you are on food stamps......NO t'bones for you and NO popcorn or candy either!
For YOU......it's pickeled pigs feet or beef tongue with eggplant.
Sounds yummy!
Caught trying to purchase lobster, NY strips or any Halloween candy.....expect a huge reduction in your benefits and possible jail time.
Well, at least you don't here an uproar from the welfare recipients who would like a separate allowance for alcohol and cigarette purchases.....oh yeah......and bar tabs.
Unpaid traffic ticket relief?
Now....THAT would be abuse, unless your an ex-politician who may find himself/herself in need of the assistance, for some horrific reason.
Oh yeah.....some money for the casino too.
THEN......any treatment deemed necessary to get over all these addictions.....FREE!
Yep....give us that health care "reform" we all so desperately need....NOW, dammit!

WIC Cards and using food stamps at Burger King and people driving Hummers and living on the coast line of Myrtle Beach while collecting welfare.
Don't forget the part where they always pull the WIC cards and food stamps out of a Coach bag.
