Go ask people in a state where there is only one insurance company.
You are implying then that insurance company profit is the only reason for high and rapidly increasing health care costs? Lets say insurance companies avg 7% net profit does competition between two or twelve of them magically reduce our health care costs somehow? Every pill, procedure and operation in medicine has a Medicare reimbursement amount as a guide. You don't think insurance companies use this as a baseline? Obamacare is working well in many states right now, other states are failing for many reasons some of which are due to states failing to set up exchanges in the best interests of their citizens. Politics are standing in the way of doing what is right again maybe.

No it is called stupidity. Have you been living under a rock? We've already tried the same experiment since about the 70s with credit cards and credit card laws. Guess what happened, all of the banks gathered in practically 1 state (DE) because they had virtually 0 usury laws (while practically every other state has laws against rates that high) and that's why tons of credit cards today have APRs like 20%.
The only 'competition' that'll get opened up is a race to the bottom, where all insurance companies will flee to a state like LA which has laughable guidelines for the minimum coverage required. The only thing people in say Idaho will get from insurance HQed in LA are crappier levels of coverage for the same costs.
Again, ACA already allowed insurance companies to compete across state lines (albeit which uniform minimum coverages required no matter where) yet insurance companies were not chomping at the bit to take advantage of it because holy crap, guess what? Trying to setup out of state networks takes a lot of time and money.
Cross state competition of insurance sales will lower costs, yeah, put that on on top of the pile of empty promises

It would basically cause a large drop in life expectancy in America as huge numbers of disabled people and others with severe diseases die a slow painful death after running out of money.
Truly a vicious way for the puppets of the donor class in Congress to pay for the gifts given to the billionaire class.
I thought the billionaire class needed more peasants to keep the fiat money system rolling?
300% of poverty level -- $35,640 -- would get a tax credit off the $3,330 they pay in taxes?
200% of poverty level -- $23,760 -- would get a tax credit off the $1,537 they pay in taxes?
100% of poverty level -- $11,880 - would get a tax credit off the $153 they pay in taxes?
How are these people supposed to buy health insurance with what they save on taxes? The person making $12K can only get a credit of $153. That won't go too far.
Nobody would get the full $4,690 credit. Could 50-64 y/o's even buy insurance for that?
What am I not understanding here?
Not sure if the credit is refundable, if it is, then that's better. If not, lawsuit at the ready...
But in principle what this is saying is, here's x dollars to help you with your healthcare, if you need more, you're on your own. People can't really control when they get really really sick... Not sure if the GOP realizes that.

If that's for Medicaid, how is it going to pay $85,000/year for the nursing home of a 90 year old that ran out of money paying for the nursing home with their own money, so is now poor?
60% of nursing home patients are on Medicaid and the typical cost is $85,000/year.
It seems like Republicans alternative is basically turning Medicaid into a block-grant program for the states and tax credits that would be $1,970 for adults ages 18-34, $3,190 credit for 35 to 49 and $4,690 for adults 50-64.
Looks like for families the credit would be $8,330 for 35-49 and $11,100 for 50-64.
The income limit under the plan is 300% poverty level.
It seems like overall that neither the Republican plan or Obamacare plan is appealing.
Looks like more socialist crap to me. If that passes I'll be staying home November 2020.

Thanks.
I'm sure there is something I'm missing here, because this doesn't make any sense.
Even if you get your $1,500 in taxes back, no one making $24K/year can afford health insurance,.
We'll be back to people showing up at the ER for medical care and long-ignored medical problems turning in monthly disability checks.
