I think it's a good idea to add continuous coverage for predicting condition. Those who are very sick to go to high risk pool. Also if people can manage their conditions for years without lots of expense, should not be in high risk pool.
This! So. Much. THIS! FINALLY someone in WA has some sense.
There is no federal law preventing this now. In fact some states tried it out and found that insurance companies didn't want to for the most part.
Will the new law mandate that insurance companies sell to anyone in any state?
Progressives won't be happy unless they get "moochercare" and that is all they want. There is no reasonable discussion to have with them because their entire premise is invalid. They believe they have a fundamental right to free health care, which really means... they have a fundamental right to force you to pay for their health care.
So, there is no solution with them. Either we promote socialism, or they are against it.
The fact is, there are becoming fewer and fewer people in the US who even understand what liberty and freedom is. There are few original intent Americans anymore.

You are paying it now and always will.

I don't know what world you've been living in, but I've never been able to get health insurance from another state.
Of course the insurance companies "don't want it", they don't want competition that would cause their prices to lower. Boo hoo. They've raked people over the coals long enough.

Some states tried it, and no insurance companies from other states would sell in their states. If the company doesn't want to sell in that state will the federal government make them?
IDK what the answer is for america, but National Health Care has worked just fine here in OZ! Is it perfect? No way! But even with it's many flaws, it's better than what you had pre-ACA and whatever is coming next for many Americans!
To me a mansion, yacht, sports car etc are privileges that you earn by hard work and saving. Health Care should be a right. Can anyone tell me why health care should only be for the affluent who can afford high premiums/deductibles/costs?
As for me, I took Personal Responsibility and took great care of myself my whole life. I got Ulcerative Colitis anyway. I took even MORE Personal Responsibility and got the painful, expensive "cure" Even still, I could not get health insurance due to "pre-existing" even though I'd put my health and fitness up against anyones. Now in OZ, I don't worry about it. I still get same-day appointments in the rare even I need one. How can millions of folks dying, or losing everything they have over an illness-even those that practiced Personal Responsiblity- be good for America? Sadly, America is loaded with the "I've got mine" types
