Yes, if one drove that Bentley slowly up Hwy. 101 through Santa Monica, the main enjoyment received, would be knowing that no one else had it. For a few years, I drove one of the most minimalist cars of all time, a Fiat 600cc Multipla (Multibus). It was so misshapen and ugly, it was almost a work of art. It was undercut perhaps only by the French Deux Chevaux, by Citroen, made with corrugated sheet metal. I enjoyed seeing the sneers of people who had mortgaged their futures, by buying and maintaining the most expensive muscle cars, consuming the bulk of their incomes. Sometimes, their children would go on limited rations, so they could buy the latest speed equipment.

Expecting medical science to keep you breathing and someone else to pay for it is just downright selfish but that sadly is another thing that is all to prevalent in humans.
So is this what you would recite for your loved one, young or old, (assuming you have one) if they were having a major medical emergency and requested to be taken to the ER?

Or does this belief apply not to you and yours, but only to OTHER PEOPLE and theirs?

Doubt that, wherever you happen to be when you have your own medical emergency, you will happen to OWN a fully equipped and staffed hospital and all the necessary specialists you may require. And better hope that the person or people who come to your aid don't repeat your own credo back to you when you are suffering mightily and expect that an expedient trip to the ER may give you relief and allow you to survive.

You may be a provocateur who likes to yank peoples' chains a little; Or you may think you really mean your above statement. Whichever, it's likely an up-close-and-personal medical crisis for you or a loved one might give you an attitude adjustment as it has for a great many people before you.
