Do you find that dreaming up alternate realities in your head is a winning strategy when it comes to dealing with real-world problems?

Doesn't look like the OP knows the process, just loves that "Extreme Vetting" whatever that is.

President Trump has suspended entry of all refugees to the United States for 120 days, and he has barred Syrian refugees indefinitely. The current screening process for all refugees involves many layers of security checks before entry into the country, and Syrians were subject to an additional layer of checks. Sometimes, the process, shown below, takes up to two years.

60 Minutes had an excellent story on how the vetting is done....potential immigrants take a year and a half to two years to investigate - less than one percent who apply are able to come to America. They have to go through multiple background checks, interviews and checks before they are allowed to immigrate to America. Usually, they are families with children, and have lost family members from terror attacks against them.

Right out the gate:

— Administration officials have acknowledged that checking the accuracy or authenticity of documents provided by refugee applicants against foreign government records can be especially difficult involving countries that don't cooperate with the U.S. government, such as Syria. It can also complicate U.S. efforts to check foreign government records for local arrests or lesser bureaucratic interactions, such as bank records, business licenses or civil filings. "We do the best we can with the information we have," one U.S. official said.

Or GIGO

This is such a lie. There is nothing to check their backgrounds against. NOTHING unless WE as in the US has arrested them on the battlefield or have first hand knowledge of their doings.

Obama hugely improved the vetting program in about 2009 if I recall correctly. The GOP were not fans around that time they were trying to cut funds used to protect our borders but got shamed and quickly reversed course.

The truth is our borders are about as secure as it is worth doing, there is a diminishing return from scrutinizing those attempting to enter our country. I am sure even Trump the dullard understands this.

What trump did with his EO did nothing at all to improve screening, it does not even attempt to. All he did was mess up lives, cancel about 100,000 rock solid visas and all for show.... Trump is flailing like a fool, next he will fake a military emergency that might costs many thousands of lives in order to prop up his failing presidency.

Our system works pretty damn well and if people really want to get in they will do so no matter what level of security we attempt.

Do you guys not understand this?

James B. Comey, Director, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice: “We can only query against that which we have collected. And so if someone has not made a ripple in the pond in Syria on a way that would get their identity or their interests reflected in our databases, we can query our databases until the cows come home but nothing will show up because we have no record of that person…You can only query what you have collected. And with respect to Iraqi refugees, we had far more in our databases because of our country’s work there for a decade. [The case of vetting Syrian refugees] is a different situation.” (10/21/15)

Quote:
Jeh C. Johnson, Secretary, U.S. Department of Homeland Security: “It is true that we are not going to know a whole lot about the Syrians that come forth in this process… That is definitely a challenge….We know that organizations like ISIL might like to exploit this [Syrian refugee resettlement] program…The good news is that we are better at [vetting] than we were eight years ago. The bad news is that there is no risk-free process.” (10/21/15)

Quote:
James B. Comey, Director, Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Department of Justice: “There is risk associated with bringing anybody in from the outside, but especially from a conflict zone like [Syria]… My concern there [about bringing Syrian refugees into the United States] is that there are certain gaps I don’t want to talk about publicly in the data available to us.” (10/8/15)

Quote:
Jeh C. Johnson, Secretary, U.S. Department of Homeland Security: “But [the Syrian refugees are] a population of people that we’re not going to know a whole lot about.” (10/8/15)

Quote:
Michael Steinbach, Assistant Director for the Federal Bureau of Investigation: “Yes, I’m concerned [about bringing Syrian refugees into the United States]…We’ll have to go take a look at those lists and go through all of those intelligence holdings and be very careful to try and identify connections to foreign terrorist groups…in Iraq, we were there on the ground collecting [intelligence], so we had databases to use…You have to have information to vet, so the concern is in Syria is that we don’t have the systems in places on the ground to collect the information.” (2/12/15)
