This thread keeps failing, and no, violent crime in LA has not skyrocketed, LAPD tweaking their methodology led to the sharp increase. Homicide and violent crimes almost always rise or fall together but that hasn't been the case in Los Angeles.

Conservatives should spend more time producing a right-leaning city that actually helps the economy instead of obsessing over liberal strongholds.
I gush in love over New York City because it has given the world or itself, Rudy Guilliani, Michael Bloomberg and Donald Trump.

When Antonio Villaraigosa is basically the best that Los Angeles has given itself, one has to question the apathy of the voters.

Eric Garcetti, Maxine Waters, Tom Bradley (as nice as he was) and James Hahn seem to be the most notable politicians from Los Angeles over the last generation and each of them has basically failed the voters.

Even DeBlasio seems to be a logic-based leader compared to Eric Garcetti who run's the city based on his emotions and bias.

It's getting out of hand. They just had a murder on Lake Shore Drive. That's a beautiful neighborhood and should be safe. It might be time to do something.

How does one distinguish between a hood rat vs non hood rat?

I thought Lord of the Flies was a fantasy, a dark Swiss Family Robinson. Little did I know it was a prophecy.

The social policy sown for the last 50 years is now bearing fruit. Fatherless households, teenage pregnancy, state supported indolence, impotent law enforcement. Moynihan warned what these would lead to and was condemned and scorned for it.

Yet he was right and his critics were wrong. Which they knew right along.

And the seeds for those were sown back in the 1950s, when Moynihan was doing this research. Teen pregnancy, fatherlessness, joblessness, were on the rise in the ghettos during the 1950s. The joblessness, I do not think this was an effect of state sponsor indolence. That came in the 60s. Black men were dealing with joblessness in the 1950s, and discrimination was a big part of it. Illegitimacy rates for Blacks(and other non-Whites) were always higher than everyone else, going back to the 1930s.

Moynihan said that without access to jobs, Black men would find them systematically alienated from husbandhood and fatherhood. This was already happening in the 1950s.

Moynihan also mentioned that the American slavery system had its effects on the Black population long after it ended.

Blacks have had it worse than anyone else in terms of job discrimination, divorce, fatherless homes, and just general quality of life. This is nothing new and it didn't start in the 60s. What happened in the 60s was everything culminating up to that.

There are more women today having children over the age of 40 than under the age of 20, and crime is at rates as low as the 1960s.

Other than that, sure, chicken little on.

This is just a partisan thread, as to say "conservatives are better than liberals". I call crap on that. Take Seattle, one of the top 5 most liberal cities in the nation. Between 2001-now, the highest murder rate it has ever seen is 5.9 murders per 100,000. Murder rate for Seattle in 2016: 3 per 100,000. 21 murders total.

Tulsa, with 82 murders last year, broke a record for the highest number of murders. It doesn't seem like much, but factor in that Tulsa has 403,505 people. Seattle has 684,451 people. Seattle has 1/4 as many murders as Tulsa, but over 280,000 more people.

Boston. Population: 655,884. Highest murder rate between 2001-now: 13.3 murders per 100,000. On average, the murder rate goes between 7-10 murders per 100,000. Boston had 46 murders last year. Murder rate of 7 per 100,00.

Minneapolis has seen rises and falls with its murder rate over the last 15 years. 2016: 9 murders per 100,000. The highest it has seen is 15 per 100,000 in 2006. Minneapolis would be between 9-12 murders per 100,000. On average, the 15 year average is around 10.5 per 100,000.
