Canadian nurses work in hospitals across the States on NAFTA work visas. Hospitals in Detroit and area employ hundreds of Canadian nurses many of whom commute from Windsor. Starting last week "advanced practice nurses and nurse anesthetists no longer qualify for the working visas because of policy changes under U.S. President Donald Trump."
"Henry Ford Hospital alone has hundreds of Canadians on staff, with about 25 advanced practice nurses or nurse anesthetists with TN visas."
"We really question the motives," said immigration lawyer Marc Topoleski, whose firm is retained by the hospital. "All of the immigration executive orders and all the things being rolled out have been focused on national security first, and this is clearly not an issue of national security whatsoever."
"Staff at Detroit's Henry Ford Hospital heard reports of nurses unable to renew their working visas. Last week, a new Canadian hire at Henry Ford tried to go to work, but was turned away at the Windsor-Detroit border. She was told advanced practice nurses and nurse anesthetists no longer qualify for the working visas because of policy changes under U.S. President Donald Trump."
This is a prime example of hyperbole and 'jump the shark' reporting .. not unusual for the CBC!
They have a 'story' which talks really only about ONE nurse who was brand new or so it would seem and 'said' she was told something that cannot or admittedly has not yet been confirmed. The staff 'heard reports about' ... this is evidence of what?

Sorry, what is it you have to dispute this with? Just your opinion?

The policy "used to be" that American employers needed to present evidence that they had made good faith efforts to employ American citizens into those positions. Work visas would only be provided if the employer could present evidence of efforts re: their searches nationally, and evidence that they could not find enough qualified employees nationally to meet their needs.
Wonder if that is still a requirement? If it has been enforced in the recent past? If it is being enforced now?

That (there is no qualified American) is not the case with NAFTA (TN) work visas where Canadians with certain skills can work in the US and vice versa. According to the article the US has moved some jobs from the approved TN list to the H1B category where this is the case.
Who's going to take care of all the Canadians that come here because socialized medicine in Canada sucks?
How many Canadians come to the US specifically for healthcare?
