Nobody just walks in and gets a nursing job that is an American without the employer having to go through legal procedures not required to hire an American. Their first choice would always be to find someone who is an American.

Maybe they will have to offer a competitive wage to get American nurses to work there.
I don't get you liberals at all, you whine day and night about "living wages" or "wealth inequality" But you then do everything you can to elect politicians that want to flood the country with cheap foreign labor, thus dragging down wages.
There is a nurses' shortage in Detroit..wonder why?
And continually justifying bad decisions by implying liberals would be okay with it if it was a Democrat does nothing to support your arguments -- or demonstrate any level of intelligence on your behalf.
Actually it is worse in rural areas where there is a shortage of nurses, doctors and medical facilities.

Do you have any clue how the free market is suppose to work?
NAFTA made it very easy for US based hospitals to hire cheap canadian nurses, thus stagnating American nurses wages,(and giving Hospital Administrators fat bonuses) But I guess your Ok with that.
Honestly, Detroit could greatly benefit from the hospitals hiring people who are able to live in or near their community. Those Canadian nurses are taking their paychecks and spending them in Canada. That's where they buy things, that's where they pay local taxes, that's where they pay property taxes, so that is is where they are creating economic activity with their paychecks. Plus, immigrants, legal or illegal, are a method to keep wages unnaturally deflated. The issue isn't that Americans don't want to do the jobs, it's that they don't want to do it at the pay they are being offered. Pay enough and people will do whatever job you have, crappy or not.

How naive are you? They hire them from Canada and other countries because they pay them less then what they'd have to pay an American.
