Trump budget cuts air service in rural communities

President Trump’s budget would end federal support for air service in rural communities, many of which voted for him in the election.

The spending blueprint, released Thursday, proposes entirely eliminating funding for the Essential Air Service (EAS) program, arguing that EAS flights “are not full and have high subsidy costs per passenger” and that “several EAS-eligible communities are relatively close to major airports.”

The 40-year old program, which costs taxpayers about $175 million per year, gives small towns and communities access to air service, providing better access to businesses in those areas. Some local officials have said they could not continue air service without federal subsidies.

If it can't survive on it's own it's useless and not needed. Just like Amtrak

What really needs to be cut is taxpayer funding for tRump running off in Air Force One each weekend to hide at Mar-a-Loco.

He's gonna burn up $175 million per year on his free flights.

The bozo has his own plane that he's been riding in for years.

C'mon, tRump. Be a man.

That's a direct quote from the Somali national mission Statement. "If you can't survive on your own, you're useless and not needed."

Trump needs a new baseball cap with that logo.

I am truly cursed to be a rational adult with a functioning memory.

As I read this thread, I thought "Wasn't this essential air service instituted as a trade off for the de-regulation of the airlines back in the 1970s"?

Why, yes it was, in 1978. For those that don't know, the airlines used to be highly regulated. The airlines did not want to be highly regulated. They wished freedom, to fly where they would, and charge as they desired.

Wish granted. However, many smaller communities objected, saying that they would lose needed air services. Hence, Congress passed the law regarding essential air services:

However, we can take comfort in the fact that the Trump administration wishes to increase the military budget by 54 billion.
