Is this yet another California bashing thread, trying to hype up low-wage areas with sweltering temperatures as amazing? Are you a realtor?
I don't see it as a bash Cali thread...it simple shows that people are mobile, and will leave high tax or high cost of living areas...especially when they retire
I know the principles of the free market, and California has had that for a long time, to put it simply, a lot of liberal politicians in Sacramento believe in over regulation of the free market, and in many other aspects in life, which I won't mention, and in many cases, it takes freedom away from us, and drives up the costs of just about everything for businesses and consumers.
And those same northerners are bringing education and businesses. Kind of odd that North Carolina's most murderous days took place before the influx of liberals. The conservative South has traditionally had the highest murder rates and lowest levels of education attainment. Until 1970, the South was seeing more people leave that move there.
You've just described liberal northern inner cities.

Northerners are moving to North carolina because its where the jobs are and some are retiring to better weather, guys like Hugh MCColl transformed charlotte into the second largest banking center in the country with bank of america, merrill lynch, Bb&t wachovia, wells fargo has an enormous presence. Same way with places like Austin and Texas, Atlanta having the third highest number of fortune 500 companies, companies like mercedes benz and Porsche relocating there, home depot, ups, delta, etc there
I dont buy the stuff about northerners changing the politics as much as people say, people have been saying florida would change to purple and its about to have the most registered republicans in its history.
Why would you vote for the same failed liberal policies you are moving from? That little moment where the solid south had a few blue states was a brief moment that was all about the republicans fielding terrible candidates and the Democrats blew their opportunity
If the democrats dont get back to being less flaky and far left and nominate people like jim webb, they will never win the south again. The Democrats strategy was the browning of america, it was a poor strategy based on false or overly optimistic forecast data on demographic change in the future
California grew because of the gold rush. San Francisco became a city because of that.
LOL. That relatively little amount of gold wasn't going to sustain a growing California. It was agriculture that was the real breadwinner for most of the 1800's and into the 1900's.

You're just artificially talking out about it's politics and your view without knowing anything about it's regulations. The free market does not solve every problem as many like to believe. Compare it to Arizona. There's really nothing here. It's a piece of hot dirt in the middle of nowhere with cheap houses. Who cares. All the fun and interesting stuff happens in CA so naturally people are attracted to it.
The problem is: too many people want to move to CA and not many housing is being built to accommodate the demand. CA builds housing alright, but for every housing unit, 10+ people want to come for that. What do you think will happen to housing prices if you somehow could magically wave the wand and lower demand? Prices would go tumbling down like crazy. Regulation isn't the issue, it's the demand that's the issue.
I could claim the same issue with AZ. Why are we over-regulating such that why can't a house cost me $50K instead of 250k? I want it as cheap as possible.
