If the video online is the video -- looks like it was remote enough right? Shouldn't be too much civilian casualty. They must have been working on this intelligence for some time...you just don't trip upon a tunnel cave system and go -- oops there it is.
your video of a nuclear artillery shell, while very cool, ain't really what he was getting at
Indeed.
But the point being is they are making a huge deal over a bomb that would have been laughed at a 1/2 century ago for being nothing but a fire cracker in comparison to what they really had to use.
If we put boots on the ground they'd be gone in a week, tops. Our military is no laughing matter. Make no mistake, we are just being nice right now. If we had the "public opinion" to do it, we would.
That's how the Iraq War Resolution was sold to Congress.

Huh? Are you saying we haven't had boots on the ground in Afghanistan?
One thing is for sure. We won't be having any ISIS terror attacks in this country as long as Donald is president. Those camel riders will be shaking in their tents after this. I don't think he would hesitate to send a Minuteman III if they kill Americans on our home soil.
Sadly, more sympathizers will be created from this.
So basically, Trump should do what Obama had been doing for some years now. Do not start a major war with US boots on the ground, but continue with airstrikes.
I agree 100%
Are we still at war with Afghanistan?
Do fancy single bombs break up more rocks than fleets of B-52's which have done the same thing?
They say intelligence is the ability to learn from experience or mistakes.
Records show we dropped 25,000 bombs in 2016. Assuming many were J-dams and hit an exact target, we can assume a much better effectiveness. Assume the average weight was 500 lbs and that's 1,250,000 pounds of bombs.....but, I know, people like to crush a lot of rocks with a single one. Good PR.

The cave complexes in Afghanistan cannot be touched unless you can send the best of the block busters directly into the entrance and then make it able to make a number of turns.
Have you guys ever seen these caves? They were built over decades against the Russians and others and then fixed up when the USA went in. I don't believe they have ever been destroyed in build.
I believe the Commander of the US forces in Afghanistan signed off on the use of this bomb.
Another "message" sent, this one aimed at underground tunnels and more.
Jury is out on if this was a good or bad move, but I will say that this and the air strike on the airstrip are very pointed and specific uses of power.
Agreed. Problem is can we learn from mistakes? As the German army was approaching Stalingrad they bombed a large part of it to rubble to soften it up and demoralize the Russians defending it.
The Russians just dug into the rubble.
I think the Emperor may have actually got an erection form this along with many others but big bombs don't win wars. The Russians beat the German army with boots on the dirt. It doesn't work any other way.
