A better solution than imposing term limits on the U.S. Congress would be a constitutional amendment to minimize gerrymandering.
Right now, the politicians pick their voters. It's supposed to be the other way around.
The SCOTUS has neglected to do this to date because it's so difficult to quantify gerrymandering. Like, I know it when I see it, but how does the government create a consistent standard out of that?
Term Limits are an admission that Democracy is a failure.
It is in this country. It has failed us miserably.
If we had a parliamentary system, I'd be against term limits. But in a two party system, I'm sorry, but special interests have become too damn entrenched. We can't dislodge the special interest groups because Americans are too infatuated with money, but we CAN dislodge the politicians by term limiting them and keeping them from becoming too entrenched and burdened by fealty to special interest groups.
The only way to keep politicians focused on doing what's right for their constituents and the country overall is to preclude them from needing money for reelection. If they can't be threatened in a primary or a Soros/Koch Brother type, then they may as well put the people first.

Didn't say that it would be easy.
And I did say that it should be a constitutional amendment.
As for SCOTUS and gerrymandering, the Supremes have no problem identifying when gerrymandering is used to discriminate against racial minorities.

But that is because the Voting Rights Act statute is clear on that. There is no similar statute on non-racial gerrymandering. SCOTUS has pretty much said "give us a quantifiable gerrymandering standard and we'll consider it" but nobody has.
Term Limits are an admission that Democracy is a failure.
As Spock would say it is a failure in logic too.
One party runs someone who is in the pockets of the corporations and banks and the other party runs some one in the pockets of the corporations and the banks. Then the people willingly show up and vote in a winner then complain that congress is more concerned with corporate interest then the people. And then a light bulb goes off in their head on how to stop the insanity of the people. And the idea of term limits and regulating the damage of the electorate is the answer. Only problem is term limits will never see the light of day.
We already have term limits. They're called elections. If people are unhappy with the people who represent them, get out and vote!
