U.S. President Donald Trump intensified a trade dispute with Canada, slapping tariffs of up to 24 percent on imported softwood lumber in a move that drew swift criticism from the Canadian government, which vowed to sue if needed.
Trump announced the new tariff at a White House gathering of conservative journalists, shortly before the Commerce Department said it would impose countervailing duties ranging from 3 percent to 24.1 percent on Canadian lumber producers including West Fraser Timber Co.

No it's not. Consumers are only part of the equation. Your argument is nonsense. You're parroting a overly simplistic answer to complex relationships. The economics version of "build a wall". Tariffs are absolutely reasonable in some cases. I have insufficient information to know if they are or are not in this situation, but they are not always 100% a bad idea.
The cost of housing and remodeling will increase. Period. Trump will have more money to waste on foreign entanglements.
That said, this particular fight has been going on for years and is not something Trump thought up. Heck, Canada has a lot more big trees than we do so I suspect their costs of lumber production are lower.
Products at retail in that industry typically are at 3X wholesale, so if a 2X4 costs 35 cents in tariffs then it will cost $1 more in the lumberyard. Of course, the "free trade" Koch brothers own Georgia Pacific so they will likely benefit greatly. It's good to be an oiligarchy.
Depends. Does Trump have facts on his side on this. Just because Trump does something, doesn't mean it's wrong.
I don't think Trump is wrong just by being Trump but in this case when you and I know that Houses in US are made of Wood, the tarif on foreign Wood will only benefit few and houses will be more expensive to make.
