Also about western society clearly it wasn't because they were white because much of Eastern Europe is still meh to say the least. But I agree with the above poster in politics and mentality. The Arabs have lead human civilization as well as the East Asians for generations prior before the Romans and Greeks. I am also telling you if Turkey was as advanced and religiously slanted the way France is they would be considered white. Same with Norhern Africa. People actually argue that if Russians had never unified even though most Russians appear white, if they remained a buffer zone with tribes the Russians wouldn't be considered white today. Also yes Tall Traveler at one point Italians and Greeks weren't considered "white" they might have been called a subgroup or something but it is much in the way that you currently today don't consider White South Americans white just because their skin tone is brown and their from Souh America even though genetically they are majority white.
If we are going to talk about race we need to use science right, So are Russians white?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uralic_peoples Because apparently most northern Russians closest relatives are Uralic people. Also according to Genetics Southern Italians might not be white either but at least half whatever racial group Turks belong too.

The concept of race is separate from the concept of Hispanic origin. Percentages for the various race categories add to 100 percent, and should not be combined with the percent Hispanic.
White. A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa. It includes people who indicate their race as "White" or report entries such as Irish, German, Italian, Lebanese, Arab, Moroccan, or Caucasian.

Not all of is "white" people have pasty skin; some of us are pretty dark. Kinda like Asians: they can run to pasty to pitch black in color.
