PR is a total economic basket case. If made a State they will expect the rest of us to bail them out in perpetuity.
I as well do not want PR as a newly minted State to be able to demand that the US become officially bilingual, expecting the rest of us to do everything in two languages such as occurs in Canada.
If Puerto Rico became a state, then we can finally have foreign ships dock at OUR port, and not go to Miami, only to go back to Puerto Rico. What sense does that make? That's one of the biggest reasons why Puerto Rico's economy is bad. The other is that Congress ended the tax breaks it gave companies who relocated to PR that otherwise would have gone to another country

People aren't keen on integrating puerto rico in the U.S because of its tremendous economic and social problems. Puerto Rico as a state wouldn't be strengthening us a nation, it would be a burden that adds to the problems we already have here.
another thing you are clueless about, the federal government can't tell a state or a territory what languages they can speak. Its not a federal matter and it can't be enforce without violating basic individual rights of your own constitution. Its a local matter......already some states have 2 languages accepted in their state constitution and that didn't affect the rest of the nation or you.

Puerto Rico is ALREADY the federal government's problem DUH!!! It has been a U.S. Territory under full federal jurisdiction for over a century.....giving them representation and state sovereignty won't make matters worse but give them the tools and power to fix their economy.

there is NO federal law that can control what the locals want to teach in Public or private schools.....if the local board of education want to have a BILINGUAL school in their districts there is NO federal law or government politician that can stop that.
there is no law that can stop anyone of speaking a language in public or in their privacy of their homes or wanting to become bilingual. In this global economy that is a must not a negative.
Puerto Rico doesn't need to be Independent to speak spanish or preserve the spanish language and their culture.....Puerto Rico has been a U.S. TERRITORY under the American flag for over 1 century and that didn't stop them of speaking spanish or the federal government having issues with that.
